Irene E. Shanes nee Epstein, age 79

Beloved wife of Samuel Shanes. Loving mother of Daniel (Diane) Shanes, Robert (Katya) Shanes, Joshua (Elisheva) Shanes, Jacob Shanes and Jonathan Shanes. Proud grandmother of Shoshanah (Rachel) Shanes, Sarah Shanes, Hannah Shanes, Noah Shanes, Lev Shanes, Nadia Shanes, Brocha Shanes, Levi Shanes, Rosa Shanes, Ezra Frankel, Ari Frankel and Toby Frankel. Dear sister of Barbara (Charles) Stevens. Adored by many grandnieces and grandnephews. The most selfless, the strongest, the most joyful, the most loving person we have ever known has left us. We knew each other for many years. We met at work and immediately became a team. Her sense of humor and innate goodness got us through many tough situations. She saw the goodness in everyone. We have remained friends after both of us retired. I will miss her everyday.

Irene and I worked together at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago in the sixties. At that time, I was known as Pat Sadlon. My strongest memory of Irene is that she was always smiling. I can visualize her walking into the O.T. office after seeing a patient with a big smile on her face. My sincerest condolences to Sam and her entire family.
