Dear All,

What a joy to have known this wonderful insightful man. And yes he did indeed have a good run! But that doesn’t make it any easier to not have here on this planet with us. But what a fantastic family legacy he has left and the many people he has touched. I can see him clearly in my mind’s eye with that terrific smile holding that long cigar. The world and especially Chicago will just not be the same with Leon!

My love and condolences,

Deborah George

To think my Uncle Leon has lived the longest of the aka Wolinetz family originally from Minsk Russia, after 2 brothers and a sister have passed years ago now leaving me to be the eldest offspring. My fondest memories is when a child living at 7021 S. Merrill Avenue South Side of Chicago, when he would simply walk in smoking his "lit" cigar as I ran up to him for a hug. Many warm memories follow including his off color jokes but so glad he has been here to not only be a grandfather but a great-grandfather as well.
thanks for the memories

Mr. Lee
You are and always will be an honorary member of the Lincoln Park Zoo Facilities Dept. We met in 2011 while working at Nature Boardwalk. Mr. Lee would walk around the zoo every morning and say “what are we working on today”. I would love the chats we had about Chicago neighborhoods and how things developed around the city. He always had some great stories and wisdom.
He would have lunches with the facilities team and would walk right into our shop with his un lit cigar and say “where is Herbie”, we all laughed and said here is Mr. Lee, the Boss. The team treated him with the upmost respect. He was a true friend and scholar and I will forever cherish his friendship. He was and will always be beautiful ray of sunshine. We could set our watches by his daily routine and we definitely missed seeing him on the zoo grounds the last several years. Thankfully Irmela kept me updated on how he was doing.
I consider him family.

May you rest in peace my friend, we will miss you and we Love you very much.

My condolences to the entire family.
