OBITUARY

Phyllis P. Marco nee Pincus, 94.
Beloved wife of the late Edward Samuel Marco. Loving mother of Leslye Botta, Lisa Marco Kouba and Lance (Mary Catherine) Marco. Proud grandmother of Bryan (Mirella) Botta, Amy Botta, Andrew Kouba, Adam Kouba, Sam Marco and Max Marco and Great grandmother of Isabella Botta. Dear sister of the late Fyrne Portney. Phyllis’ life was the embodiment of the role of Auntie Mame that she played on stage; living life to the limit and positively impacting the lives of others. She received her BA from Grinnell College and a Master’s Degree from Governor’s State University. Phyllis was one of the first speech therapists in the Chicago Public Schools and taught acting at Minnie Galatzer’s Acting Studio. She sang with Johnny Lester’s Band, and performed in shows along with Mel Torme, Shecky Greene and magician “Mr. Electric” Marvyn Roy. Phyllis modeled for the Conover Modeling Agency and had a radio show on WJJD Chicago. She also served as an Executive Board Member for her beloved Chicago Heights Drama Group, where she performed the lead in many musicals. Phyllis taught Yoga at the YMCA (before it was trendy) and was President of the Dysfunctioning Child Center of Michael Reese Hospital, a fundraising organization with more than 1000 members. In Florida, Phyllis was active in community affairs; serving as: Board Member of the Citizens for a Better Marco Island, Member of the Marco Island Beautification Committee, President of the Marco Island Friends of the Library, and President of the Marco Island Shell Club. She served as a Director of the Jewish Congregation of Marco Island and was a President of the JCMI Sisterhood. For eight years, Phyllis served on the Marco Island Civic Association (MICA) Board of Directors, including one year as its Vice President. Phyllis traveled around the world with her beloved husband, Eddie; where they shared many fabulous adventures. An inspiration to her family, friends, and all whom she encountered; Phyllis leaves a lasting legacy of a life well lived. Service Thursday June 24, 2021, 2:00 p.m., at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Road) Skokie. Interment will be in Florida.
