I have loved Marliss my entire life. I have so many happy memories of our folks, and growing up hanging out with Marliss and my Mom, Shirlee.
I am blessed to have been loved by Marliss and her memories are my blessing.

I am not a friend nor even an acquaintance (my loss); I met Marliss 22 years ago and have never forgotten her. Spring break, 2002, months after 9/11. We were part of a small group on a flight from Newburgh, NY (southern Catskills) to Chicago that got cancelled. American Airlines sent us to a motel and put us on another flight out of a different airport the next morning. Most of the group was very understanding that circumstances were beyond the control of the very kind AA staff. Marliss rose to the occasion and became the defacto spokesperson for the rest of our group. There was a very nasty couple who were lashing out at the staff and Marliss was the first to rise to the defense of the AA staff and let them know how much we appreciated their efforts. The next morning we all assembled at the airport in White Plains, NY. There was a young man in our group heavily burdened with luggage who was headed to Chicago, where he was moving to start a residency at one of the hospitals. He was treated like dirt by the TSA because of his skin color. Marliss was there to offer support to this young man. I was so impressed with her. A few weeks later, I was at a meeting at The Book Stall in Winnetka. Initially we all introduced ourselves and to my pleasant surprise I had the pleasure of meeting Marliss again. Two brief encounters - but I have never forgotten her. Truly a woman of integrity. My condolences to her friends and family. May her memory be a blessing.

My condolences are with all of you as you Celebrate the Life of Marliss Levin. I was lucky to meet Marliss at the Book Stall in Winnetka. They had a Cookbook Club where we met once a month and brought dishes out of a chosen cookbook or author. Sometimes the author came to join us. After sharing our dishes we would go around and give suggestions as to how we made the dish, how we would edit the dish, etc. We had so much fun getting together monthly. She was a lovely woman who had so many life experiences to share with us. She was the one who told me about my beloved Shanty restaurant in Wadsworth...and Frank's Diner in Kenosha! I am thinking of all of you and send you all hugs. I will forever cherish the memories that I have of Marliss. Sincerely, Kathy
