OBITUARY

Doris Elaine Cassidy nee Levy, 94

Beloved mother of Robert (Maria) Cassidy, James (Vera) Cassidy, Peter Cassidy and Patricia Levy (Allen) Andrews, William (Eileen) Cassidy, Joseph Cassidy and the late Thomas Cassidy. Proud grandmother of David, Irene, Monette, Daniel, Rebecca, Jacob (Nyssa), Nicole, Melissa, Christina, John, Joanne and Doris. Cherished great grandmother of 18. Dear sister of the late Eduard (Delores) Levy and the late Alice (the late Kappy) Kaplan. Doris is remembered as a "force of nature" who influenced and affected everyone she knew, even strangers. Her tenacious spirit, her creativity, her insistence on thinking for herself, her love of music and of singing, and especially her love of the water, whether swimming or boating. She loved her seven children deeply. Doris lived long, laughed heartily, loved passionately, and pulled no punches. May she be remembered among the mourners of Israel. May her memory be for a blessing. May she rest in peace. To keep everyone safe and healthy, the chapel service and interment are private. In a house filled with children and a flurry of activity, she found the time and the grace to love even me, a friend of the number 2 son. She was very special. She loved life and people and ideas. She loved to express her opinions even with children whom she understood to be just small people. She was above no one, and not below anyone. She treated people the same with affection and respect and a sense of brotherhood. I really loved her. She was so cute and peppy and open to learn everything. How she enjoyed life, her family, the little things and she could laugh. She could get mildly irritated, too. "Jimmmmmmy" she would say slowly and distinctly. (We knew he was in trouble when she said his name like that! "James David" she would exclaim. Even more trouble. But she never lost her temper. She always explained to us in ways we could comprehend why we should not be total idiots. And it helped. She didn't hate us or shame us. She was one of us. And I miss her. I miss that time in my life when I was somehow part of that great big whirlwind of living life among that wonderful crazy bunch 60 years ago.
