I am sorry to hear this. Ms. Siegel was my middle school principal and she was fantastic. Thanks to her, I still have fond memories of Pretty Lake! May she rest in peace, and blessings to her family.

I echo Irene, in that Ms. Siegel was my fantastic middle school principal as well and I had the pleasure of being in her group as a 7th grader at Pretty Lake who was terrified of the ropes course. She will long be remembered and always missed!

Mrs. Siegel was my middle school principal as well. Dedicated, strict, omni-present! If any follow her lead, we are lucky in our education!

Oh, and the Pretty Lake ropes course was terrifying. And wonderful.

Phenomenal Woman! All that has been said before and much more. The world is a better place because you were here. I taught for many years, had many principals, but Corinne stands out as the best that I have ever worked with. She was also my friend. I will miss our conversations and lunches that we shared. Rest in Peace!
My prayers are with the family.

Corinne was an inspirational leader for her middle school faculty. Always a staunch Dewey progressive, she let her teachers, too, learn by doing. Goodbye, friend.

I was saddened to hear of Corinne's passing. A fellow Hunter College alumna, we were kindred spirits. Corinne was a mighty force but underneath her intimidating presence was a generous & kind heart.

I called Washburne Jr High to inquire about the job of reading specialist, one that I didn't really have the specific coursework for. Corinne answered the phone, telling me she had 3 very good candidates already. I told her I was 15 minutes away and asked for 15 minutes of her time. She immediately agreed and hired me. The classroom i inherited came with countless workbooks that I had no intention of putting to use-I wanted my students to read books! So, little by little, I packed up the workbooks, handed them to a custodian requesting that he put them someplace "safe". After a few weeks, Corinne opened my classroom door saying I know you are getting rid of all these materials and I want to know why. I replied that no one ever checks a workbook out of the library, reads one on a train or carries to a beach. She smiled and said, " I like that." Many of us who worked with Corinne now recognize that we worked in the golden age of teaching meaning we worked for a principal who had the confidence in her own skills. Importantly, she backed her teachers and mentored them. A treasure!
I also had young children and Corinne encouraged me to bring them to work when Evanston schools weren't in session. I didn't have to scramble for a babysitter. One day I realized it had been awhile since I had seen my 4 yr old. The school secretary raised an eyebrow at my concern saying Corinne had taken him with her to another school. She created a community of support. She'll be missed.
