OBITUARY

Gerald “Jerry” Weiner, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully at his home in Highland Park, Illinois, on April 30, 2025.

Born in Chicago on December 20, 1941, Jerry was the son of the late Lilyan and Irwin Weiner. He spent his life enriching the lives of others through his passions, intellect, and generosity. A longtime resident of both Highland Park and Santa Monica, Jerry is survived by his loving wife Barbara and sister Susan, his daughters Rachel Singerman and Sara (Eric) Rubel, and his cherished grandchildren Max and Milo Singerman, and Julia, Lily, and Ryan Rubel.

Jerry earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University Chicago and later received a Master’s degree in Political Science from Georgetown University. He enjoyed a distinguished career in Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley.

Beyond his professional life, Jerry was a man of many talents and interests. He was a skilled bonsai master, poet, and glass blower. A dedicated scholar and collector, Jerry assembled an exceptional collection of Ethiopian manuscripts, which are now housed at UCLA and Catholic University. He was instrumental in sponsoring Ethiopian Jews to resettle in Israel, reflecting his deep commitment to humanitarian causes.

Jerry was a generous philanthropist, recently donating an ambulance to Israel. He actively served on the boards of the Israel Cancer Research Fund, Friends of the IDF, and the CG Jung Institute of Chicago.

Above all, Jerry will be remembered for the conversations he cherished with friends and family, his boundless curiosity, and his unwavering commitment to giving back. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.

Service Monday, May 5, 12 Noon at Makom Solel Lakeside, 1301 Clavey Road, Highland Park. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to the Israel Cancer Research Fund.

Jerry was way more than my financial advisor, he became a very good friend. He helped me through my fight with cancer (acutely myeloid leukemia. When I was diagnosed. Back in 2012. He called my wife to let her know if she needed any thing he was there to help. We enjoyed our visits with Jerry and Barb. He will be greatly missed by many. Jerry may God bless and keep you and your family..I will surely miss you and your guidance and friendship and all of your great stories, you shared, you indeed were one of a kind. Jerry’s insightful wisdom and deep compassion for humanity coupled with his keen sense of humor enriched everyone he met. He generously gave his time, talent and resources to the C. G. Jung Institute of Chicago while serving on the Board and the Development Committee. He was a true friend who would tell you the truth in a way and at time that truth could be heard. A man of great integrity who blessed humanity greatly. He will be dearly missed.

Jerry was a renaissance man. He was our financial advisor but also our friend for 20 years. We always enjoyed talking with him- business was dispensed with quickly- far more time was spent telling stories, hearing updates about his endeavors and the family- who he loved so deeply. And there was always laughter. Barbara and Jerry welcomed us to their home. Our home proudly displays an original vase made by Jerry. The world is a bit dimmer today. Both his family and his work family are in our thoughts. May his memory be a blessing.
