OBITUARY

Mark J. Baroulia, age 68. Son of the late Hyman Baroulia and the late Shirley nee Adelman and late Stepmother Rose Baroulia, nee LaMaskin. Fond stepbrother of Joel Schlofsky. Dear friend of Harriet Sallach.
Mark grew up in West Rogers Park in Chicago and became a Bar Mitzvah at Ner Tamid Congregation. He graduated from Mather High School and then from the DePaul University Business School. Mark was a CPA and Certified Fraud Examiner for over 25 years. As an accountant, Mark became a close friend of Sheldon Spitzer and godfather to Sheldon’s son, Jason.
Mark was very active at Ner Tamid Congregation, participating on their Board of Directors, and utilizing his skills as a CPA. He was actively coordinating during the merger with the Egalitarian Minyan and the move into the Temple Menorah building. Mark continued to occasionally chant a Haftorah at the Shabbat services, until prevented by his illness.
When Mark was 10 years old, his mother passed away after a long illness. His father subsequently remarried, providing Mark with a stepmother to care for him. He grew up surrounded by many cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
Mark's maternal Grandparents immigrated from Lithuania with their eldest daughter, Bernice, age 2, subsequently having a son, George, and another daughter, Mark's mother. His father was also of Lithuanian heritage, and Mark was always very proud of his heritage. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed doing cooking, including Lithuanian cooking and baking.
More recently, Mark enjoyed playing Mahjong, listening to music presentations, and other community activities with his neighbors. For a number of years, Mark also volunteered with a local non-profit organization to assist them with their tax forms, as a CPA.
Service Wednesday 10:30AM at Westlawn Cemetery (Memorial Section), 7801 West Montrose, Norridge, IL. Mark has always been a very good friend to me, over the years. We both went to Mather HS together, as did his cousin Joel Rothman. We all attended an after school civics program at Devon Bank and our lives intermingled through the years. I am very sorry to learn of Mark's passing. May his memory be a blessing, for all the wonderful things that he did in Chicago.
