I worked with Herb for his years at Northwestern. He was one of the kindest, most decent gentleman I ever met. One story: Herb single-handedly returned me to the Democratic Party. Not so much through debate, but it just simply dawned on me one day, "I don't want to belong to a political party that Herb doesn't want any part of." His goodness and character won me over. I have moved out of the Chicago area, but I often think of Herb and the meals we had together and his always friendly companionship and love for his family, and I will always go on thinking of him and those things. Rest in Peace, good old Herb.
