David whom I called Dede took a chance on an unknown author of an unconventional book. He gave me a chance when others had turned me down . He had vision and took risks which delays seemed to pay off, making anthropology at the U of Chicago Press achieve global excellence. We became friends who shared many jokes, stories and loss -of-balsnce laughter . We both loved the blues and enjoyed many memorable nights in Chicago blues bars. He started my journey as writer. He was one of kind and he will be missed but not forgotten I will say kaddish for my friend and will light yortzeit for him every August. Rest in Peace Dede

My sincere condolences to Jataun and the Brent Family. I’ve known Jataun since high school days and when she and David first got together, they were a perfect match: both impressively witty, intelligent and kind. David had a way of making everyone around him feel welcomed and included. I’ll miss David’s charm and kindness. RIP, dear David.

David was a fixture on the Kaseno and Celinsky farms in Cornucopia summers while growing up - the Brent boys liked to come up to help the Kaseno boys "make" hay, and their company always made the chores go faster.

We all appreciated that he made the trip up to Uncle Bill Celinsky's services a few years back. We always looked forward to talking with any of the Brents when they were up on Bark Point.

Our condolences. Memory Eternal!
