Theodora Clarice. "Thea", nee Bournstine, known to friends/family as Teddye

Born a 3rd generation Chicagoan to the late Chares H. and Pauline Blank Bournstine. Died at 96 years young. Dearly beloved wife of the late Melvin J. Bliwas, and the late Daniel Everett Felix. Adoring mother of Rabbi Cathy L. (Rabbi Elliot Schoenberg) Felix, Daniel P. (Andrea Kelinson) Felix, Andrea S. Felix, Alisa Zapiler, and the late Errol Bliwas. Devoted and proud Grandma Teddye of Gabriel, Ariel and Daniel (Jamie Peck) Schoenberg. Dana and Jay Felix, Sarah (Zachary) Tomlinson Zapiler and Aaron (Brigitta Lazuran) Zapiler. Great Grandma to Jacklyn Emma Schoenberg and Noah William Tomlinson Zapiler. Loving sister of the late Chuck (Lois) Bournstine. Caring aunt of Karen (Rick) Whiteman and Sue (Mike) Plymal. Very special friend of the late Carl Lerner. A proud South-Sider, Teddye was confirmed from Sinai Congregation and graduated Hyde Park High School. She attended U Wisconsin, Madison majoring in O.T., completed her group work at George Williams College, and took supplementary courses at the College of Jewish Studies. Before marriage she served as assistant director of the JCC Day Camp program in Chicago, and volunteered with the Girl Scouts, Young Judea and the South Shore Y. While raising children in South Shore and in Highland Park, she volunteered at the PTA, Johanna Lodge and League of Women’s Voters, eventually returning to work as a geriatric activities’ director for several northshore facilities. She was an artist, winning awards for her posters; she was a constant knitter, showering family with sweaters and scarves; passionate about bridge, reading, politics, the White Sox and her grandchildren. Service, interment and shiva will be Sunday, August 27, 2023. A graveside service will be held Sunday, 11:00 am at Waldheim Jewish Cemetery, (Gate 44 - enter from Des Plaines Ave., South of Roosevelt Road) Forest Park. There will also be a Memorial Service held on Sunday, 1:00pm at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd., (One block North of Dempster) Skokie.
