OBITUARY

Faye Levey Grossman, age 95, beloved mother of Lisa (Steven) Zebovitz and Larry (Ellen) Schwartz. Loving grandmother of Julie (Dan Noble) Schwartz, Aaron (Amy) Schwartz, Lily (Raanan Kagan) Seglin and Jackson Zebovitz, adoring great grandmother of Ari and Noah Noble, cherished sister of the late Phyllis Robin, fond aunt of Gary (Sharyl) Robin, Marsha (Bruce)Weinstein and the late Bruce Robin. Growing up in Chicago through the Great Depression and World War II, Faye was a 1945 graduate of Marshall High School. She was the first of her family to go to college, earning a BA and an MA from the University of Illinois. While raising children in Indianapolis, she turned to teaching because it was a field open to women in the post-War era. In 1963 she moved to Philadelphia, where she taught social studies at Jenkintown High School for 28 years. Upon retirement she returned to the Chicago area, where she volunteered at PADS emergency shelter for the homeless and for Sarah’s Inn domestic violence hotline. She became active in the Illinois League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women and was a College Bound Opportunities mentor for many years. She was deeply devoted to family, and enjoyed global travel, participating in weekly Torah studies at Temple Makom Solel Lakeside, and leading current events discussions with her community members. Faye’s commitment to engaged citizenship, lifelong learning, and voracious reading continued throughout her life. Simultaneously sensitive, strong, brave, and resilient, Faye will be sadly missed by her family and remembered fondly by friends and former students across the country. Graveside service Monday 1:00 PM at Shalom Memorial Park (Section V Mt. Moriah), 1700 West Rand Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to League of Women Voters Highland Park/Highwood, P.O.
