We loved sharing family events and never stopped talking about life observations. In youth we'd enjoy watching binge eaters stuffing themselves at Chinese buffets, noting quantities consumed. Similar to avid bird watchers, we'd recall where and when, etc. Can you imagine Howard learning to canoe from me, hating water? Always fun to try new things.

I didn't know Howard very well. I only met him once a few months before the transplant and then the day of it and a few days after. He never missed calling me or sending cards for every holiday and especially the anniversary of the transplant. He was truly thankful and let me know it. I will miss the calls--some were quite long. He talked about things he had done and always kept on thanking me. God is the one to thank. nb
