OBITUARY

Wayne Elliott Silverman, 62.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Elliott Silverman who passed peacefully in his sleep on September 24, 2024, in Northbrook, Illinois after a fight against cancer like no other fight you have witnessed. A resilient man,  overcoming many years of illness and consistently beating the odds. Affectionately known as "Padge," this incredible man touched the lives of friends and family in countless ways.

Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Susie (nee Miller) Silverman, and their four children: Whitney, Samara, Jordan, and Colin Silverman (Kayla Schwartz). He was a devoted son to Madelyn and David Silverman, a favorite son-in-law of Sherry and Bill Miller (d. 1985), a cherished brother to Bonnie (Steve) Karlin, loving brother-in-law to Jeff and Maureen Miller, and a caring uncle to Lindsey, Daphne, Molly, Noah, and Addie.

Wayne was the grand master planner of vacations, the voice of Passover Seders that included cartoon clips of the Rugrats, and “that guy” who always asked the important questions at the Cubs convention. He was the master of about ten dad jokes that never changed, the ultimate Connect 4 champion, and a determined finder of Jewish heritage sites worldwide. Every family meal will be fondly remembered for his creation of the beloved "Silverman Style" of food ordering—where sharing was key.
Wayne made lasting memories for his family and friends. He was a true believer in the power of faith, family, and a positive spirit. His radiant smile lit up every room, bringing joy to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Many people use words like "The Best," "#1 Dad," and "Superman" to describe their fathers. Wayne embodied all of those qualities, but the word “GOOD” stands out most. He was just so, so good. Wayne Silverman leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience, having made a tremendous impact on all who knew him. While the world has lost an irreplaceable person, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of many.

Service Friday, 11AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment Rosehill Cemetery. To view the livestream, please visit our website. Wayne was my first employer when I was in high school, helped me start my business after graduate school, and was always gentle, funny, and caring.

I was heartbroken to hear he was sick and more so that he passed away. His memory should always be for a blessing.

Sincerely,
-Brad Glieberman

My friend and my brother since we met in 1979. AZA, SAM and life after college.

As my accountant and financial advisor, a brilliant and gifted man that guided me patiently through years of me asking "explain it one more time".

A father and husband that loved being with his family while traveling the world.

A devoted Chicago sports fan that soaked up every moment our teams reached the pinnacle...and suffered greatly during each defeat.

But, most of all a mensch among men.

You'll be missed.

Sending all my love to Jordan, Madge and the Silverman family. I feel honored to have met Padge at Tulane when he and Madge came to visit Jordan. What I will never forget is how joyful he was, spending time with him felt like sunshine. His happiness and love for his family was so clear I remember thinking he was a remarkable father, and looked to him and Madge as the gold standard of parents and partners. His loss is felt deeply, and I hope you find comfort in seeing his goodness reflected in Jordan and her siblings. In that way, a part of him lives on through all of you. He is gone too soon, but your time with him is worth more than 100 years with anyone else. All my love, Kat “Grandbig” Greissman

I feel sorry for anyone who didn't have the privilege of knowing Wayne. I've never meant a smarter, kinder or gentler person. We met 44 years ago this month and found we had in common our love for the Blackhawks and White Sox. It wasn't easy to be a fan in those days but there was nothing easier than being friends with Wayne. I met him 44 years ago this month and he was a joy to know, a sweet and caring friend. We drifted for a long time and it was my fault. But we found each other a couple of years ago and we effortlessly picked up where we left off. I've never met a stronger man and I know he is proud of his lovely and devoted wife, Susie, and his beautiful children. Besides that he has so many loving friends and family. Wayne lived a blessed life and definitely practiced Tikun Olam (healing the world). The world is a better place because Wayne was in it. I will miss you my friend. Baruch Dayan HaEmet. I love you.

It has been such a long time since I have heard the name Wayne Silverman. He was a big part of my BBG/AZA life. He used to ride his bike all the way from Skokie to Northbrook to visit me. Wayne once stayed on the phone with me for over an hour after I had been part of a horrific car accident and wasn’t coping very well. He had wanted to get off the phone and ride his bike over, but I wouldn’t let him because I needed to continuously hear his kind, steady voice.
