OBITUARY

Sue (Novitsky) Pick, 88 yet amazingly youthful, died peacefully at Highland Park Hospital on Nov. 6, 2024, surrounded by loving family. A former interior designer, she made everything around her beautiful. She was a generous supporter of countless cultural organizations, known for her organizational brilliance, her fine musical taste, and her outrageous sense of humor. She was a voracious reader and a wonderful host. The hilarious booklets she made for family members lovingly celebrated their quirks.

Born and raised in Ft. Wayne, IN, she was an honors graduate of the University of Michigan, where she studied voice and majored in English. Together with her adored husband, Thomas F. Pick, she raised their four children on the North Shore and later spent winters on Sanibel Island, FL, a place they both loved. Married for 60 years, Sue and Tom rarely spent time apart.

Sue devoted her time and expertise to the Ravinia Festival Women's Board and the board of Sanibel Music Festival, which brought the finest classical musicians to the island, including the Emerson String Quartet. She served on many other boards over the years, and she was an enthusiastic supporter of Music of the Baroque, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, and the Chicago Public Library Foundation.

As the gracious heart at the center of her large family, Sue celebrated everyone's accomplishments with panache. She was beloved mother of Nancy Pick (Lawrence Douglas), Sarah "Sally" Pick, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Dr. Guy) Kochvar, and Charles (Jackie) Pick. Grandmother of Jacob (Chelsea Wirth) and Milo Douglas; Andrew (Amber) and Steven Kochvar; and Jackson, Logan and Kyra Pick. Sister-in-law of Richard Braman (Lynn). In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Bryon Novitsky, sister Judith N. Braman, and sister-in-law Mary P. Hines (Harold Hines). Devoted aunt to Dr. William Hines, Anne Hines Young, and David Hines; and Lawrence and Todd Braman. We are deeply grateful for the loving caregiving of Debra Saulsberry and Faith Tacastacas.

Donations may be made to Sanibel Music Festival, PO Box 1623, Sanibel, FL 33957, www.sanibelmusicfestival.org

Marv and I send our heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Your beautiful mother/grandmother would always light up a room where ever she went. Her heart revolved around how much she loved her family. She had a smile for everyone. She was always interested in your life, your family, your interests and how you were doing. We always looked forward to seeing her when we returned to Illinois in the summer. We miss her.

Sending condolences to your entire family. We are longtime neighbors of Betsy and Guy and also Sue and Tom. There was never a day when I didn't see Sue with a big smile on her face walking down the street past our house. We know she is truly at peace now. What a full and extraordinary life she lead! She will be missed by so many. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Warmly, The Sawyer Family

Sue was absolutely adorable. I didn’t know she was unwell because I haven’t seen or interacted with her since the hurricane. She was, in many ways, the life of the party and I think the first ever to invite everyone in for cocktails. She was kind and thoughtful and I liked her enormously..

I send my sympathy and condolences to the entire family. She was a bright star in our firmament. Her sense of humor was like none other. And her caring personality; that’s who she was, along with her dramatic, colorful, beautiful clothing! She was a unique, irreplaceable, loving individual, someone who had been part of my life for more than a half-century, a faithful friend. I will miss her, forever.

My son Matt and I send heartfelt sympathy and caring thoughts to the wonderful family of Sue Pick. Up to a few weeks ago, Sue and I had been working on joint projects for Sanibel Music Festival as we had been for over 20 years. My husband Bob and I, and Sue and Tom became good friends when Bob was serving as Sanibel Music Festival President. I will remember Sue for her wit and panache, her sensitivity and intelligence, her exceptional writing skills, and extraordinary knowledge and understanding of classical music. We will deeply miss Sue, our dear friend.
