Herb was one of the best teachers that I have ever had the benefit of studying under. His enthusiastic and contagious teaching was one of the highlights of attending Bowen HS.

I met Herb and got to know him and his wonderful family when I moved to Skokie and began working at the Mayer Kaplan JCC in the 70's.
Herb and Elaine were always such a joy to be around. And their children - Laurel; Steve and Howard were always such lovable, respectful and devoted children. I knew the boys quite well as they both worked for me at the J. Herb was one of the key and leading members of our J Joggers. Everybody who knew Herb; loved Herb. He was a shining light onto his community; relatives and friends. Herb always called me Coach because of my guidance with his and others physical fitness and running (including the Marathon) programs. But truth be told - Herb was one of my key mentors and Coaches in the realm of life itself. His gentle demeanor and universal knowledge of so many aspects of life and learning was a guidepost for so many of us. Yes, Herb will be truly missed but his impact on all who knew him and learned from him - both formally and informally - will never leave us. Our vivid memories of Herb will ALWAYS be for a Blessing.
