Steve was always ready and willing to take photos for Lincolnwood events. Campaign photos were his specialty in the 90s. He made us all look so good in the photos. Steve was a mainstay at the pool every summer. I cannot begin to express my sadness at his passing. May he rest in peace. Love and condolences from Arizona.

There is a tendency, when someone dies, to remember them in only glowing terms, forgetting about any warts. But to my mind, Steve is someone who glowed in life in ways unique and special. He was truly one of the kindest people I have had the privilege to know. His love for his wife, children, friends, and profession were seemingly limitless. Steve and Fran had a marriage to be admired. To sit with Steve and hear him recount his life story and tales from his life as a journalist was to be entertained and awed for hours. I will miss my dear friend but will remember him with deepest love.

So sorry for your loss . Steve and I worked the streets of Chicago covering news . He was a very caring person. During an awful Chicago heat wave is Steve and I were covering a Chicago police removed body from an old apartment building on the city southside. Steve stood there with tears in his eyes. He was a total professional who really cared about people and the city of Chicago. Rest in peace Steve.

Scott, David, & Lasker family, Sending our deepest condolences on the passing of your dad. He was one of my mentors starting out in photojournalism. No one will ever forget that award winning photo of Chicago Firefighter Richard Shey, from Squad Co. 1 carrying that young child out of the blaze at Our Lady of the Angeles School that should have won a Pulitzer Prize. I got to know your dad while he was working at Channel 2 during the old film days along with his sound man. Both very professional and true gentleman. Your dad knew that one day I was going to be on staff photographer, with the Chicago Sun-Times. That dream did come true. He was so correct. With that being said a true toast to a man and friend. Until we meet again. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of my family and myself, we offer our sincere condolences to the Lasker Family. I first met Steve many many years ago running around chasing Fire and Police calls, he always had great advice for the young guys and shared his insight in the world of covering breaking news. Steve was a real professional, well respected on the streets and by his colleagues.

Fran and family,
I wish my heart Jerry could grasp the loss of his good friend . He loved Steve and they had many wonderful moments together when Jerry was mayor. Parades, meetings, dinners, fests, music in the park or the pool, all memories. Please know, I treasured all the pictures he would email me and tease him I was waiting for my crown as first lady so he could take that special picture.
May his memory be a blessing and always a memory for the Turry family.

Dear Ms. Frannie and Family:

My heart is broken. I can’t believe that I won’t be seeing Mr. Steve shooting photos at Lincolnwood events any longer. His kindness and talent knew no bounds! I have so many great memories of us crossing paths and holding lovely conversations together. I am honored to say that we display the memorable photos that he took of my in-laws celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary together at a special mass at Cardinal Stepinac church and the reception following at Via Veneto restaurant.

I am certain that The Village of Lincolnwood needs to honor the talent of Mr. Steve Lasker by displaying samples of his work permanently at Village Hall .

What a mensch! Ah Ms. Frannie, I will miss Mr. Lasker (call me Steve) dreadfully. How lucky I am to have been able to call him my friend. May his memory be a blessing.

My father considered Steve one of his best friends. Steve took the photos at my wedding. I even have a picture of Steve and Fran at the wedding. He led a long, beautiful and distinguished life. I am so sorry to read of his death.

Please accept my condolences. Steve and Mr. Gadbois were the great overnight/early morning camera/sound crew at Channel 2 when I was on the assignment desk. They were always reliable, and Steve’s eye for composition turned routine fire and crime scenes into art. Good luck to the Lasker family.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Steve. Steve really meant a lot to me and my family as I grew up in our family's business based in Lincolnwood. He was a great example of the word "Mensch" as he continued to send emails and communications to me on all the major holidays. I will miss him for sure. My deepest condolences to all his family.

I'm so sorry for your loss . I'm unable to attend the Service for Steve, but I will be thinking of him as I watch the service on the internet. Steve was a great friend who was with me through my early days at the Chicago American Photo Department. We continued our friendship after he moved on to CBS and throughout our careers by meeting many mornings at the Palace Grill before our shifts. We would talk about the events, camera equipment, catch up on our assignments (many times covering the same or similar stories on the streets of Chicago) and bring each other up on family events while George would be at the grill getting the restaurant ready for the day and telling us all the latest jokes.
After retiring we both continue to meet regularly at the palace or talk on the phone, I will be missing these conversations along with everybody else that knew Steve from my family to Steve’s, our deepest sympathy and condolences.

To Fran and Steve’s children and grandson,
I first met Steve when I began working as a reporter for Channel 2’s sister station, WBBM Radio. We often found ourselves covering the same news stories in the early morning hours. Always with a cigar hanging out of his mouth and lugging tons of camera and other equipment, he made it look effortless and he always captured an angle that made the story come alive. The reporters who worked with him knew that he would never disappoint or fail them. And to the rest of us, even his competitors, he was unfailingly generous and helpful.
Then, to my surprise and delight, when we moved to Lincolnwood in the late’80’s, I discovered we were neighbors! He and Fran lived just around the corner from us and often we’d see him and Fran, walking down our street, pushing Jack in his stroller. It was evident to everyone how much they loved and enjoyed that small child. He was such a proud grandfather!
I haven’t seen Steve since he moved from his house but I will miss his warm smile and his wonderful personality. I was privileged to know him. Our condolences to all of you!
