OBITUARY

Leon Gurny, age 94, son of the late Sarah and Samuel Gurny; beloved husband of Eunice, nee Mostow, for 71 years; treasured and loving father of Ellen (Bob) Raymond, Carol (Michael) Rosenberg, and Nancy Gurny (Steven Grossman). Cherished grandfather of Daniel (fiancee Suchi Pandey) and Emily Raymond, David (Morgan) Rosenberg, Joanna (Zach) Howard, Michael McAdam, and Lena Grossman. Proud great grandfather of William, Adam, and John Rosenberg, James and Tess Howard. Dear brother of the late Lillian (the late Marshall) Chern, fond brother-in-law of Corinne (the late Mort) Goldman and Lois (Les) Fishman. Adored uncle of many nieces and nephews. Leon was extraordinarily kind and endlessly fun with a great sense of humor. He was the ultimate family man whose many interests included volunteering, gardening, the arts, and all sports, especially White Sox baseball. HIs steady hand and positive outlook drew in those around him. Leon is loved by his many friends and family and will be dearly missed. To keep everyone safe and healthy, the chapel service and interment are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to American Civil Liberties Union, 150 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 600, Chicago, Illinois 60601, ACLU.org or The Nature Conservancy, 4245 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, Virginia 22203, preserve.nature.org would be greatly appreciated. Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Leon. His hard work, dedication and cheerful demeanor have been sorely missed since he 'retired' from volunteering several years ago in the Living Plant Documentation department of the Chicago Botanic Garden. Always the consummate gentleman and a gentle soul - his like are in sort supply these days.
Sincerely yours,
Boyce Tankersley
