Greg J. Reuss

Obituary

Greg Reuss. April 22, 1952 - June 12, 2021. Greg Reuss passed in peace on June 12, 2021, surrounded by his adoring family. While his hard-fought battle with cancer caused much suffering, Greg took his last breath mouthing the words – I love you – ultimately personifying the man he was throughout his life. Greg’s late mother, Lovis Reuss, raised him to be kind and considerate; curious and wise. Greg inherited Lovis’ love of the English culture, planting, and historical knowledge of any kind. His wife, Jan, was Greg’s soulmate and best friend. They spent 32 wonderful years together, celebrating life’s many joys and focusing intently on their four grandkids, Matthew and Isabella Berland, and Sofia and Luca Presser. Being a devoted grandfather was paramount in Greg’s life, sharing his enthusiastic yet always calm spirit. Greg modeled for his step-children, Mike (Marcela) Berland and Shari (Marcelo) Presser what it means to be an upstander, an optimist, and a truly amazing parent. Greg and Jan loved traveling to their favorite respite, Sanibel Island, taking walks on the beach collecting shells, and fantasizing about Greg’s next under-par shot. Greg was an avid golfer. Every day was a good day to golf. Hitting balls, chipping and putting were his passions. He was always one adjustment away from the perfect long drive. Greg also cherished his role as uncle to Codi (Eric) Larson, the late Nolan Domagata (Lisa), and his great niece and nephews, Eric Jr. and Anika Larson and Jaxson Domagata. Greg’s sister and brother-in law, Holly and Bud Domagata, were early partners in his family business and shared memorable moments as their children grew up and became parents in their own right. Greg’s business, Reuss and Sons, was founded by his father, Vernon, and was the go-to sporting goods store across the Chicago suburbs. For more than three decades, local communities turned to Greg for his advice and expertise. Generations of families knew that they could count on Greg’s honesty and good judgment, and always enjoyed his warm personality. While Greg’s passing was too early at 69, his family and friends are comforted in knowing that he leaves behind a legacy of unadulterated altruism and the happiness that simplicity can inspire.
