OBITUARY

Diana Binder nee Lipkin, age 76.

Beloved wife of Jerrold Binder. Dear daughter of the late Benjamin (Yummy) and the late Olive Lipkin. Cherished sister of the late Alan Lipkin. She was a loving sister-in-law to Linda, Alvin and Gregory (Beverly) Binder. Aunt Diana to Joey, Julia, Justin, Emily and Amy and Auntie Deena to many cousins, close friends and to their godson, David. Diana will always be remembered for her will to live and her kindness to all that met her.
Diana grew up in Chicago and worked with her mother at Green Thumb plant shop. She met the love of her life Jerry at Mayfair Junior College in Chicago at the young age of 19. They married 3 1/2 years later and became known as Jerry and Diana. They were very fortunate to celebrate 53 years of marriage together and always by each other's side like two puzzle pieces.
Diana and Jerry were not blessed with their own children but they loved their nieces and nephews, cousins and godson immensely, never missing a birthday or a special occasion. Diana was a lover of her fur babies, growing up with Siamese Cats, then raising 3 Corgis, Stoney, Frankie and Scarlette and then recently they enjoyed the company of 2 hamsters Caramel and Bailey.
Diana wore many hats from working in the flower shop with her mom, to being a community service officer, fulfilling pledges at channel 11 and finally an accountant after getting her bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University in computer science and accounting. She was brought up loving Irish Heritage. As fate would have it, the college where Jerry and Diana met became the Irish American Heritage Center. Jerry and Diana loved Irish music, going to pubs, dancing the night away, and going to the events at the Irish Center. Diana unfortunately was born with lungs that were always being challenged and eventually took her life. She was hospitalized so much, and Jerry was always right by her side, even at the end he was holding her hand, looking into her eyes when she took her last breath. While she had weak lungs, she always had a heart of gold.
Visitation Wednesday at 10 AM with funeral service to follow at 11 AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment Zion Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association 55 West Wacker Drive, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60601 www.lung.org. I am so sad! Diana was such a lovely person with a beautiful smile. We were cousins but lived in different areas - me in Michigan and she in Chicago. She would come and spend. time with us during summer vacation. Her mom and dad would visit my mother every Memorial Day weekend. After the loss of her father, Diana and Jerry continued the trips with her mother. Then, Diana and Jerry continued the trips until Diana's health issues became more frequent. We were hoping for another visit this summer . . .
Diana had a beautiful voice and did get those lungs working, at times breaking out in an Irish melody! All these memories bring tears but I know she will not have to make another hospital visit ever again.
Jerry - hold on to all the memories - you have many - please know we will look forward to seeing you as soon as you feel like visiting. We send love and condolences to you. May Diana rest in peace.

Love,
Sharol

We will miss those bright eyes and sweet smile! Deena was amazingly kind, giving and loving. Her unshakable love for life will always be an inspirationl! Growing up with her was truly a gift. Our bond, love and friendship born over the decades will be forever cherished. I am grateful for a lifetime of beautiful memories of our family get togethers since childhood!
Deena's passion for music and the arts was contagious! She knew every lyric of every song at each concert we shared. LJ will miss seeing her in the front row of his perfomances as well as her frequent requests for Hank Williams!
Our times together at concerts, dinners and family events will be so missed!
You are forever in our hearts, rest in peace sweet.Deena.

Jerry, so sad to hear the news my friend. Such a lovely lady. I’ll never forget, and have always appreciated, Diana and you coming to the Heritage Center’s Fifth Province to listen to the music. You were clearly a couple in love who would dance at the drop of a hat. I’ve pictured that scene many times in the years that have gone by.
I’m lucky to have known her.
Condolences.
Take care. Seamus.

I was stunned when Jerry called to tell me of Diana’s passing. I first met her in 1983 when I returned to college at Roosevelt University. We became fast friends and our friendship never wavered. And along with Diana came Jerry, a truly great guy and the world’s best husband. I’m so thankful you were with her as she passed away., Jerry.

Diana was the kindest, most loving and gentle person I’ve ever known. She was truly one in a million. I will miss her so much but her spirit will always be with me. She suffered greatly at times and she fought so hard to live. I’m grateful she won’t have anymore hospital stays.

Rest in peace my beautiful friend. I’ll love and miss you forever.
