OBITUARY

Marianne (Opperman) Burdeen, aged 91, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 27, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio, to Sam and Anne Opperman, Marianne lived a life marked by love, learning, and devotion.

She spent most of her life in South Bend, Indiana, where she dedicated herself to educating young minds as an elementary school teacher. A proud graduate of John Adams High School, Marianne earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. She completed her Master of Arts at Saint Mary’s College, exemplifying her passion for education and personal growth.

Marianne was the beloved wife of the late Allen Burdeen, a devoted and cherished mother to Karen (Dr. David) Oppenheim, David Burdeen, and Jeffery Burdeen, and a treasured grandmother to Hannah and Maya Oppenheim. She is also survived by her dear sister, Deborah Opperman (Robert) Levine.

Marianne was a beacon of kindness, wisdom, and love to all who knew her. She loved adventure and having fun. Her legacy lives on through her family, her friends, and the countless students whose lives she touched during her years in education.

Her family invites those who knew and loved her to celebrate her remarkable life. Services Tuesday, 2PM at Congregation Or Shalom, 21 Hawthorn Parkway, Vernon Hills, Illinois. Interment Wednesday, 1PM (Eastern Time) at Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka, Indiana.
