OBITUARY

Dr. Vin Rosenthal, age 96 was born in Chicago on February 17, 1928 to Louis and Lil Rosenthal (nee Rappaport.) He grew up in the Rogers Park neighborhood, graduated from Roosevelt High School, and joined the US Navy at age 17 and served aboard the USS Hornet stationed in San Diego, CA. He attended Roosevelt University and Illinois Institute of Technology on the GI bill where he earned a PhD in Psychology. Dr. Rosenthal married Mildred “Pat” Reuben in 1948.
He began as a caseworker in Cook County and dedicated his life to the practice and teaching of humanistic and existential psychotherapy. He was professor in the Psychology departments of Northwestern University and Northeastern Illinois University and was an active member of the American Academy of Psychotherapists, serving as the Editor of VOICES, its journal. He had a lifelong private practice of individual and group psychotherapy in the Chicago area. Vin often traveled to teach his personal style of existential psychology in Europe.
He married his beloved wife, Suzanne Galler Rosenthal in October 1979.
His lifelong interests included music and art appreciation, reading and travel. He was devoted to his writing, especially about personal insights into the relationship between patient and therapist, and he wrote hundreds of Haiku poems. Sue and Vin traveled extensively in Europe and Asia.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Suzanne Galler Rosenthal, PhD, father of Lise (Dr.Charles “Buck”) Strom, CJ (Caryn) Rogers and stepfather of Stephen (Merle Nathan) Galler and Leslie Glazier. Proud grandfather of Rachel (Bradley) Ross, Samuel (Mary Clark) Strom, Andy Galler, Julie (Jeff Wilson) Galler, Alex (Mila) Sharrin, Matthew (Clayton Rice) Sharrin, Annie (Dan) Chiado, Daisy Glazier and Clay Glazier.
Cherished great grandfather of Chase Ross, Dylan Chiado, Penny Chiado, Ryder Ross, Leo Clark-Strom, Isaac Clark-Strom and Charlie Sharrin. Devoted brother of the late Arlene (the late Norman) Demb and uncle of Amy (Robert) Rubinberg and Laura (Jeff Burdette) Demb.
Memorial service Thursday 11AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Private interment was held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
