OBITUARY

Sheila Del Valle, nee Asher, age 81

Beloved mother of Deidre Baumann, Teresa Baumann (deceased), Kristina (Tom) Chambers, Andrea Kim, Emily (Dan) Chambers. Loving grandmother of Karina Kim, Nora Chambers, Katherine Chambers, Hana Kim, Ella Chambers, Elisabeth Chambers, Luke Chambers, and Michael Chambers. Dear sister of Allen Asher (deceased) and daughter of Rochelle Asher, nee Zindell (deceased) and Oscar Asher (deceased). Sheila deeply loved her family, her friends, and her dogs, Roxy, Checkers, Molly (deceased) and Boomer (deceased) and was a true free spirit to all who knew her. She was a Chicago Public high school computer science and Spanish language teacher, a lover of music, art, and books, a wonderful salsa dancer, and an avid collector of fine glass and pottery. Sheila loved life and found joy in life’s smallest details. Throughout her life, she fought for what she believed and until she passed on November 13, 2021, lived life largely on her own terms. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Road) in Skokie. Interment will be at Menorah Gardens in Broadview. Shiva/Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Norwood Park Historical Society, 5624 N. Newark in Chicago, at which time, we will honor the life and legacy of a remarkable woman. We respectfully ask that all attendees follow recommended Covid protocol. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite animal rescue of choice or to the American Lung Association. To attend the funeral live stream, please visit our website. Sheila and I met the first day of high school and became fast friends. She was my best friend during that year and into the next year when I started to date the guy who became my husband. (We are going on 62 years). Then my family moved, but I still saw my friends in the club The Cytanas. Sheila began singing with Nina Fisher and my guy Lenny Kaplan. The three of them sang at my 17th birthday party. I knew her mom and the difficulties they had getting along. Through the years whenever I'd see your mom I couldn't stop the hugging. She was such a part of me at a time when we all felt so mixed up about so much. May she rest in peace. My love to you all.

Len (Lenny) sends his love to you too.

Sheila and I were singing buddies in high school. We loved to harmonize, especially singing, "When the Red Red robin keeps bob, bobbin along".
Every time we would see each over the years we would start singing.
She was one of the smartest students in school, and I envied her for that.
She was also a wonderful person. Your family must be so proud that she was a part of you all. Love to you all,

Nina Fisher Dordek
