OBITUARY

Fred E. Holubow, 84, passed away on Saturday, December 9. Born in Chicago, he was the son of the late Geraldine and Harry Holubow. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Sandra (Rosen); was the proud father of Marc (Stacy) and Eric; loving grandfather to Noah, Sydney, Eleanor, and Miriam; and his cherished cat, Shadow. A graduate of the MIT School of Electrical Engineering, Fred also held an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago. He was a Managing Partner at William Harris Investors, collaborating closely with the late Irving B. Harris. He co-founded Pegasus Associates, served as a General Partner at Starbow Partners, and was a Principal at Petard Risk Analysis. A specialist in biotechnology and pharmaceutical investments, Fred also served on the board of directors for various public companies, including Tecogen, Inc., which researches clean energy solutions. Fred's legacy extends beyond his business acumen. Known for his sharp wit and signature humor, he was a raconteur and a true Renaissance man. His talents ranged from crafting model ships to building telescopes and computers. He was deeply passionate about growing orchids and bonsai trees, and many of his award-winning bonsai trees are in the permanent collection of the Chicago Botanic Garden, often on exhibit. His photography, capturing diverse cultures and natural beauty during his travels, earned him both exhibitions and awards. Besides his deep love for his family, Fred valued education and the arts. He was a Governing Member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and a benefactor to the Round Table of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Erikson Institute, MIT, the University of Chicago, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also gave generously through the years to the Jewish United Fund, the Anti-Defamation League, WTTW, the Lincoln Park Zoo, and PAWS Chicago. Service Friday, December 15, 12 PM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. *Email and phone numbers will NOT be displayed online

Fred was a friend and advisor at the same time. I will miss not only that but also his wonderful humor. In his new journey, I hope that he meets again with my late brother and they can continue their argument whether he deserves an A or a B in his Thermo Dynamics study at MIT.

Fred will be extremely missed!

Sandra and family,
Anita and I are very sorry about Fred's passing.
I have known Fred since late 1984. Fred is one of the most important people in my life, both professionally and personally. We travelled on business around the world including most memorably Israel. We served together on several biotech boards of directors and his thoughts made important contributions to medical treatments.
His wit and wisdom kept me on my toes and challenged me in many ways. Happily I had lunch with Fred several months ago.
Fred will be in my heart and thoughts for the rest of my life. It is a blessing to have known him!
May his memory be a blessing!
Our thoughts are with you all.

Dear Holubow Family,
Fred was my Audit Chair for 15 years. We often traveled (and dined) together for investor conferences to NY and SF together, and even once to Israel for a week. Fred was a bright and intelligent light in my life. And funny - if he wasn't making me laugh, he was certainly making me smile. I'm very thankful to have had Fred as an important part of my life for over thirty years and so so grateful to have met Fred for lunch a couple of months ago. It was wonderful to catch up and see his smile. Wishing you all peace during this sad time - I'm hopeful that the happy and warm memories of Fred carry you through this difficult time. Sincerely, Phillip Donenberg

Fred was a client of mine back in the 80s and 90s. I always found him engaging and very interesting to work with. My condolences to his family. May his memory be for a blessing.
