Bob was one in 1 million! I will miss his sense of humor. That is how I remember him, with the poker face that made it hard to know if he was kidding or not. He always had a piece of advice for me, as a good father should. Many fun childhood memories of Bob and his family. You are in our thoughts. Love from the Steiner family,

Bob was a true pal and an aficionado of the Lone Ranger. I will forever think of him as my kemosabe. Hi ho Silver away (but never forgotten)!

Louis and I send Bobs family big hugs. His life was one full of temple, family, leadership, living by example and peace and calm thoughtful discussion. I never heard him raise his voice. Our experience with him as parent, president, board member and friend at Temple Israel was formative in our leading and dealing with others. Love to the family and thanks for sharing him with us all.

I knew Bob since I was in high school. He was both my and my brother’s AZA advisor. After I graduated college I went to work for the CPA firm BDO, where Bob was the Tax Partner. Bob was always a friend and advisor to me. He was a good person. My best to his family.

Bob was a life long friend and held a special place in our hearts as we were the matchmakers for Bob and Ann 50 years ago and have continued to celebrate each year that first date.

Growing up with Bobs son Mike I would spend time in the Abel household. Often on Shabbat I would be exposed to a side of Judaism that was a bit more in depth than practiced in my home. When my father passed when I was 14, newly bar mitzvah’d, to say I was devastated is an understatement. In the weeks that followed Bob and the entire Abel family stepped in with unexpected tenacity. Showing up at my home and explaining I was needed to form a minion he gave me a sense of importance and ushered me into the synagogue, a place he knew I’d find friendship, community, tradition and healing. That summer, he suggested it would be good for me to accompany their family to South Haven. It was there on the shore of Lake Michigan that I found acceptance and dealt with my grief. Bob was never pushy yet somehow intuited what I needed and pushed until I agreed. His generosity, and that of Ann, Ruthie and Mike is something that has had a life long impression on me. I’ve always thought if you can deeply impact even one person than life is well lived. Bobs life was certainly well lived as he deeply impacted countless souls and I’m grateful to be one of them. I will always love you Bob Abel.

Our condolences on your loss. I saw Bob a few weeks ago at minyan and we shared Temple Israel “war stories”. He was a a mensch and a mentor to me when I became President of Temple Israel and his deadpan humor never let you know immediately if he was being for real or funny.
He will be missed. May his memory be for a blessing.
