OBITUARY

Hillary Egresits was born on June 3, 1963 to the late Robert and Evelyn Cheriff nee Gross. She passed away in her home on November 30, 2021 at the age of 58 after a short and brutal battle with stage IV Lung Cancer.

Hillary was a New York girl at heart, spending her childhood in an apartment in Brooklyn with her sister Deb and parents Evelyn and Bob. Never too far were her cousins Helene, Janice, Bobby, Richard, Karen and Howard. In the summer, Hillary spent many days in the Hamptons with her best friend Mona, who after 50 years, is still like a sister to her. While working in the city, she also shared an apartment with her spiritual twin, Valerie, who still holds some of their greatest memories.

Everyone who ever knew Hillary fell in love with her grace, wit, beauty, and of course, sass. Lots of sass. She spent the next few years of her life traveling the world with her husband Steve, a few notable places being Vienna, Phuket, Paris, and her personal favorite, Bali. She settled down in Chicago and became a mother to two beautiful and very tall children, Stephen and Elizabeth. Every Christmas and Easter was spent with her sisters- and brothers-in law Claudia, Marc, Andrea, and Ray, nephews Justin and Michael, and in-laws Stephan and Gertrude.

Hillary was always a mother first and went above and beyond for her children every single day. No matter if it was a class play, a late-night school project, or a baseball game, she always showed up. Hillary worked since she was 15, and everyone knew what drive and passion she possessed. So when the time came, she put that energy into in her children.
While Hillary is no longer physically with us, she lives on in the hearts in everyone who ever had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Private service will be held on Friday, Dec. 3, 3PM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Road) Skokie. Hillary will be interred next to her mother at the New Montefiore Cemetery in NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to LUNGevity, 228 S. Wabash, Suite 700, Chicago, IL 60604, www.lungevity.org. To attend the funeral live stream and for shiva/reception information, please visit our website. So very sorry to hear this heartbreaking news, my sincerest condolences to the Egresits family. We spent many an evening sitting with Hilary in the stands rooting for Stephan and Dylan and the rest of their Jones Eagles teammates. It seemed as if the weather was always foul, cold and wet, for Jones baseball, but never the mood in the stands. Hilary was always quick witted and a constant source of good cheer and and wry humor; she will certainly be missed.

Steve, Stephen, and Elizabeth,
I am so heartbroken to hear of Hillary's passing. Your family was one of the first families to welcome me to Catherine Cook. Hillary was ALWAYS the first one to volunteer her time to help out in the classroom. I enjoyed chatting with her, not only about you kids, but about life in general. She was funny, beautiful, witty, and kind. She will be missed, and I will treasure the memories I have with her and all of you. My heart goes out to all of you. XOXO Ms. Murphy

To the Egresits Family,

Hillary was a delightful human being and neighbor! We were shocked by her premature death.
We will miss our visits in the laundry room. Steve and I are among the many that will continue to miss her at 3750.

Hillary and I bonded over being tall women - where do we find pants, so many tall jokes, and the relaxation of the shoulders that happens when you can look another person in the eye by gazing ahead rather than down. She was so down to earth and funny. She cared deeply about her kids and I can hear her voice still in my ear in the quick clip with which she spoke as she chatted me up about them during some school event or waiting for pickup from an ASA. I am heartbroken for the family and although I haven't seen them in years, the fond memories come flooding back. Much love to all of you.
