Funeral Details

Edythe (Edie) R. Cloonan, cherished wife of over 50 years to the deceased love of her life, James B. Cloonan, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2022. Edie was known to her family and extensive circle of friends and colleagues for her positive energy and "can-do" spirit. In addition to her full life and partnership with Jim in his stewardship of AAII, the individual investor education firm they built together, Edie's ability to bring people together and organized were the cornerstones to her success as a real estate broker and as the chair and member of the many committees and boards on which she served throughout the years as part of her service to Chicago's thriving arts community, most notably the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, the Goodman Theater, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.

Edie leaves behind her loving children, Michele V. Cloonan, married to Sidney Berger, Harry L. Madorin, married to Karyn Madorin, Mia K. Cloonan, and Carrie L. Madorin, married to Douglas McGregor; and grandchildren Aaron Berger, married to Sarah Berger, Ivan Madorin, Sacha Cloonan, Ian Madorin-McGregor, married to Ashley Kline, Jae Lehan, and Tai Lehan; and great grandchildren, Max Kline-Kim, Enzo Madorin, and Theo Kline-McGregor. Edie was grateful to have at her side in loving attendance her family and steadfast caregiver Penny Rivers who were dedicated to her care and comfort through her final days.

Edie was born in Chicago on August 6, 1938 to her loving parents Rebecca (Graf) and Harry Ratner. She lived her entire life in Chicago, the city she loved, although she and Jim were such avid travelers, it could be tough to keep up with their whereabouts, between their frequent and extensive worldwide travel and their commitment to spending equal time in their home in Paradise Valley, AZ.

Edie leaves behind many dear and long-standing friends who join her loving family in celebrating the joy and passion she brought to all of us throughout the years. We celebrate her indomitable spirit and hold her memory in our hearts forever, and rejoice that she and Jim are again united as they always wanted to be. We love you and are grateful for all your love and support as a mom, Nana, Nannie, grandmother, and friend! Be at peace again with your Jimmy!
