OBITUARY

Robert Lowell Grossman, 84

Robert (a.k.a. “Bob”, “Riggle”, “Papa”) was born in Providence, Rhode Island and grew up in New York. He moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1976. However, as they say, “you can take the boy out of New England, but you can’t take New England out of the boy”. While frequently described as a quiet and gentle man, he often lit up the room with his sense of humor and dry wit. He spent his time doing what he loved most, whether it was watching ‘old shoot em ups’, playing golf, traveling the globe with his wife or visiting the racetrack.

He will be remembered as the devoted husband of Phyllis, nee Small, for 54 years. Dear Brother of Peter and Johnny Grossman. Loving father of Karen (Dan Baker) Furie, Debbie (Howard) Buckner, and Gary (Sheryl) Grossman. Proud grandfather of Elizabeth, Jessica, Brett, Benjamin, Leah, Mari and Eli.

To keep everyone safe and healthy, the chapel service will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be sent to the JCC of Chicago, 300 Revere Drive, Northbrook, IL 60062, www.jccchicago.org or the American Heart Association, 300 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 1200, Chicago, IL 60606, www.heart.org.

We were so moved by the genuineness, beauty and graciousness of each word and image of the service that we can barely move, much less write. However your hearts spoke to ours in so profound a voice that we want to reach out to you across the 1700 miles that currently physically separate us. Our shared feelings of loss but enduring and indelible memories are tied to yours with bonds of steel. Robert's memory to us and all who knew him is a blessing. He was quiet but the waters of his being had the depth of the Pacific Ocean . Our love for him and your family shall be forever. As Phyliss clasped her hands in love for all of us we stretch our hands out in love to all of you. The Jerrys.
