OBITUARY

Sheldon Bernard Mazor, November, 25th 1927 - August 1st, 2020

Sheldon (Shel) Mazor passed away peacefully on August, 1st 2020 at the age of 92. He is survived by his children, Aliza (Alese) Mazor, Bennett Mazor (Wayne Nilson), Beth Mazor (Joe Slaughter) and grandchildren Eric Slaughter, Bryan Slaughter, and Yihun Mazor. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois Mazor and brother, Merton Mazor. Sheldon was born in Chicago, IL and raised his family in Evanston, IL. He graduated from Senn High School and University of Illinois Urbana Champaign for both his undergrad and J.D. He served in both the US Army and Navy. Sheldon practiced law as an attorney for over 30 years as part of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Federal government. He was a longtime member of Beth Emet Synagogue. Sheldon will be remembered as a devoted father and adoring grandfather. His happiest moments were spent marking Jewish holidays and other celebrations with his family over a meal. Sheldon loved reading and had varied interests in history, philosophy, medicine, spirituality, and poetry. He was a scholar at heart and continued to further his education taking classes far into his 80s. He loved the arts too, especially theater where he enjoyed opera and Shakespeare, music where he listened to grand orchestras and soothing jazz, and paintings where he relished in the detail of impressionism. Sheldon was a committed Jew. His commitment to his beliefs never wavered as he went to services and minyan year after year. In his younger years, he was an avid runner and outdoor enthusiast who joined hiking trips in the west each summer. He loved a good fresh pumpernickel bagel with lox and tomato and anything cooked by his daughter, Beth. He was a man of simple tastes and few words. Those closest to him felt the radiance of his love every day. He will be remembered and missed. Contributions in Sheldon’s memory can be made to: Blind Services Association 17 N.
