OBITUARY

Jim Friedlieb, 81, of Morton Grove, Illinois, passed away Friday at home. Devoted husband of Iris for 57 years; loving father of Linda, Andrew (Danielle), and Rachael (Steve) Chaiken; proud grandfather of Rylan, Livi, Flora, Abby, Jake, and Alyssa; dear brother of Susan (Victor) Rothbardt. Preceded in death by parents Irene and Walter. Jim was a lifelong Cubs fan, strategic cardplayer, fisherman with many stories, expert on dad jokes, notorious soft touch for his grandchildren, and master of "the body of common knowledge." Services Sunday 11AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Boulevard (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment Shalom. Cubs attire encouraged. Iris, Andy, Linda, and Rachael,
I’m so sorry to hear that Jim passed away. These are the times when I wish I lived back home so I would be able to send everyone my thoughts and condolences in person. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to fly to Chicago, attend the funeral, and spend some time sitting Shiva with my family. Sending my love to the four of you and Danielle, Livi, Rylan, Steven, Abby, Jake, Alyssa, & Flora. As long as my plans don’t change I will be flying to Chicago around the 21st of October, spending a few days there, leaving again for a trip to Nashville with my friends, and returning on November 1st. I hope that you will have some free time so we can get together again when I’m back in the Chicago area. Thinking of everyone during this sad time and sending everyone my love. Robyn

I was greatly blessed to have known Jim as a work colleague and dear friend for over 50 years. He was humbly the quickest wit and most intelligent person in the room. Jim was always willing to share and teach with no regard for his personal time. I cannot begin to describe his skills, abilities and humanness. And, with all that, he continued to work as one of the team. One of my favorite insights into Jim is his commitments to his clients, balanced with caring for his people. We shared an annual, tight-deadline, project that began in November and had to complete by year end. To ensure everyone had time for personal life and family holidays he ensured our wrap-up early enough in December. However, Chicago winters oftentimes tried to disrupt schedules. Jim’s solution was he and I could meet at his house at 4:30 a.m. to avoid rush hour delays, arriving at the office well before traffic. He got his work done ahead of the team and kept the project on time. This happened more than one day and more than one year. Jim led by example, always caring about his team and his clients.
