OBITUARY
Charles Horberg, known as "Sonny" and "Chuck," passed away on June 26 at the age of 89.
Born to Morris and Esther Horberg, Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rebecca Kay Goldblatt.
He is survived by Sandra (née Pfingst), his devoted wife of 68 years, whose love and partnership were the foundation of a beautiful life together. He is also survived by his daughters, Ellen Krupp (Jeff) and Robin Bruebach (Tom); his grandchildren, Ethan Krupp (Madeleine), Lauren Krupp, and Emily Bruebach; and his cherished great-granddaughter, Norah.
Sonny began his career as a jeweler at the age of 19 in Chicago's historic Mallers Building, where he spent decades helping people celebrate some of the most meaningful moments of their lives. He understood that jewelry represented far more than precious stones and metals—it marked love, commitment, achievement, and family milestones. Of all the jewelry he sold, engagement rings were his favorite. He delighted in helping couples begin their journeys together and took great pride in being a part of so many love stories. Known for his warmth, kindness, and ability to connect with people, Sonny touched countless lives throughout his career. Customers often became lifelong friends, and many families returned to him across generations to commemorate their special occasions. Above all else, Sonny was devoted to his family. He was immensely proud of his daughters and grandchildren and their accomplishments. He found tremendous joy in watching his family grow through each generation. Becoming a grandfather and great-grandfather brought him some of life's greatest happiness.
Those who knew Sonny will remember his generous spirit, his dedication to his craft, his genuine interest in others, and his deep love for his family. Though he spent a lifetime surrounded by beautiful jewels, his greatest treasures were always the people he loved. His memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
