Growing up, my family lived in the apt below the Nitzbrrgs at 402 S. Laramie, Chicago. I remember Fern' grandfather, Mr. Sugar. We reconnected decades later at Temple Bene Shalom. She and Ron were such wonderful, kind people. When my mother was suffering from Alzheimers, they would come to visit. Such a gift! Please know my prayers and those of my family accompany you.

Fern and Merna were our teenage babysitters when we all lived at 402 S. Laramie Avenue. The Nitzbergs lived upstairs and that is how we learned about Jewish traditions. We had a mini UN with neighbors who were Greek, Europeans, Jewish and an immigrant couple from Italy who taught our Irish mother to cook Italian food.
All the kids regardless of age shared popsicles, bikes and impromptu birthday gatherings.
As adults we had kept in touch mainly through my brother Fr. Joseph Mulcrone. Until a few years ago I would correspond with Merna and hope she has the same email address to which I can send my sympathy.
Your mother and I had a chance to reminisce after I sent her some photos from our Laramie days. I am sorry for this loss and know that these last years have been difficult for your families. Your parents were wonderful human beings and they taught us a lot about living a good life.
