OBITUARY

Dylan Buckner

It is with indescribable sadness that we announce the passing of our son, Dylan Jacob Buckner who died unexpectedly on January 7. Dylan was only 18, having been born on November 1, 2002 in Chicago before moving to Northbrook in 2004. Dylan's death has broken the hearts of his parents, Chris and Karen nee Teitelbaum, his brother Ethan, his grandfather Leonard Teitelbaum, his uncles Howard S. Teitelbaum, Howie Teitelbaum and Don Buckner Jr., his aunts Jane Waldren and Meg Buckner, his cousins Daniel and Andrew Teitelbaum and Sarah Buckner, and countless friends, coaches and teammates. Dylan is joined in Heaven by his late Grandparents Dorothy Teitelbaum, Don Buckner Sr. and Grace Buckner. Dylan cherished his many friends at Wescott Elementary School, his friends and basketball teammates at Maple Middle School, the coaches, teammates and the families of his Diamond Dawgz Baseball teams, and his coaches, teachers, many friends and great teammates at Glenbrook North High School. Above all but his family and friends, Dylan was a Quarterback. Dylan's football career started in fourth grade and football was a constant until his death. At GBN, Dylan was an honors student, a three year varsity football starting quarterback, a team captain his senior year and holds the school record for passing completions. Dylan's funeral will be held via Zoom on Monday, January 11 at 4p.m. central time. To attend the funeral live stream, please visit www.cjfinfo.com and click on Dylan's name. It's indescribably sad that Dylan is no longer with us. I always thought that Dylan had such a wonderful future ahead of him. I've known Dylan since he was 7 years old. If someone who never met Dylan would ask me to describe him, here is what I would say: "Dylan is someone who always has his friends and families best interest in mind, he is very kind, easy going, smart, compassionate, dependable, friendly, and someone who smiles often. He is a good person." Dylan, you will be missed and I will always remember you as a wonderful person! Thank you for the opportunity to get to know you.

Karen, Chris and Ethan - I don't know if you remember me or my son, Grant, from Gertrude B Nielsen days, but we remember you, and Dylan. We remember how excited Dylan was with his new baby brother Ethan! That smile - so incredible - could light up 15 football fields!! I see his pictures now at 18 and I see that same beautiful face and smile, but as a young man. You and your family were always so welcoming and inclusive, of everyone, the kids had such fun times at your house. My heart breaks for all of you, a pain that may seem so impossible to bear. I wish I could do something, anything to help - to let you all know that you have an army of people who truly care about all of you and are here to hold you up until you are strong. I remember your kindness and how much you cared about everyone. Please know that we are here as you have been for us. I am sending my deepest and most sincere condolences to you all and your families. Just know...anything..! With Love - Tam, Grant and Erika Baucom

My condolences on the loss of Dylan. Our lives were touched by his kindness when he befriended our son, Lee, a GBN classmate and athlete with autism. Being treated as an equal by Dylan helped build Lee's self-esteem and confidence. Please take comfort in the knowledge that Dylan lives on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him.

From the day Dylan walked into my classroom last year, I was so impressed with the way he carried himself--such maturity, kindness and integrity. He was THE model student, and I was so lucky to have him again this year. Earlier this year, he asked for my input on some of his college essay responses. As I read them, I remember thinking how proud you must be of your son. I thought to myself that if my son grows up to be even half the man Dylan is, I would be the proudest parent in the world. Because Dylan was in my class this year, so many kids have recently written or commented to me about how Dylan was a friend to all--I observed this as well. He was standout. He touched and brightened so many lives. I am honored to have known him.

I am profoundly sorry for your loss. Dylan was an amazing young man who made a huge impact on me. He brought an energy and light to our 7th grade classroom that I will always remember. I remember his intellectual curiosity, his dedication to hard work, and his kindness, I also remember his amazing family, and I cannot imagine the depth of your grief. I am so very sorry; please know that we are thinking of you and of him.

Dylan was in my AP Computer Science class this year. He made excellent first impressions both in the way he spoke with me and the way he loved the course material. He had such a positive effect on me and his classmates. I know he will be missed by all. While his time with us was too short, I know I am a better man for having known him.

Dear Buckner family,

We are so sorry for your loss. Dylan was a wonderful person. We met Dylan at Temple Jeremiah. Charlie and Dylan had the same Bar Mitzvah date. We were in the rabbis office and spent time learning about each other. Later Charlie, would play football with Dylan, and for Chris as coach.
We will miss Dylan and we hope your sorrow will help you grow stronger.

Our deepest condolences to all of your family and friends, we are heart broken by this sad news of loosing Dylan at such young age, we believe that each and everyone of us has a purpose in life, since the moment we met you and your family at Big Apple Bagels you made us feel special, with your kindness, respect and that warm smile you shared every time you came into the store, and that same reflection we got from Dylan when he would come in with his teammates or his brother, we thank you for letting us meet your wonderful family, we all have lost a great human being, but he will forever live in our hearts in our memories and in our minds , may god give you the strength and many blessings too you and your loved ones.
