OBITUARY
Leonard A. Worsek
1930 – 2023
We have lost a lion—an irreplaceable leader whose life was governed by purpose and integrity.? Whether you were blessed to know him as “Sweetheart,” “Dad,” “Leonard,” “Lenny,” “Uncle” or “Papa,” Leonard Worsek strived to do the right things in the right way. While he could never remember a joke, he could always be relied on to be fully engaged; provide thoughtful advice; and deliver a heartfelt bearhug against a cashmere sweater.
At his core Leonard was a family man.? He met “his Barbara” (nee Bruno) when he was fifteen and she was thirteen. They remained together as best friends for more than 65 years--a formidable pair leading lives focused on Family and “Community Family.”
Children Richard (Lisa), Julie (Jeff Olian), Nancy and John (Bruce Clark) were raised in a home filled with love and parental role models.? Leonard and Barbara were uncle and aunt to adored nieces, nephews and extended family/friends. They were doting grandparents to Lauren Worsek (Paul Varnado), Jared Olian (Ashley), Jamie Worsek (Jay Goldstein), Mallory Olian DePrekel (Pete), Michael Worsek (Jeremy Silverberg) and Noa Rosenberg. And they relished being known, interactive and cherished by eight great-grandchildren.
As the leader of Mid-America Appraisal & Research Corporation and Property Assessment Advisors, Leonard was a trusted expert on nationwide real estate matters until he retired in his 80s.? For more than fifty years he worked tirelessly as a philanthropist on behalf of the Council for Jewish Elderly. He continued to contribute to the organization even as he moved into Gidwitz Place in 2020, and he actively participated in board meetings up until last month.
Leonard’s family, friends and associates will miss his sharp thinking, wise counsel and love for a great chat over a good meal.? We are comforted his life played out as a script he would have written, knowing he was joining his precious Barbara in peaceful rest. In lieu of flowers donations to CJE Senior Life, www.cje.net would be much appreciated tributes.?For service details contact Chicago Jewish Funerals - Skokie Chapel, 847.229.8822, www.cjfinfo.com.
