OBITUARY
Mrs. Rosalyn Goldsmith, nee Yampolsky, age 95, passed away in her home on May 19. She was the cherished wife of Dr. Louis Goldsmith, of blessed memory, for nearly 73 years. Dear mother of Gerald (Laura) Goldsmith, Bryna (Allan) Towb, and the late Rabbi Aaron Goldsmith z”l. Loving grandmother of Heather (Phil), Yitzy (Mimi), Shmuly, Paul (Liz), Chani (Shuky), Moshe (Shoshanna), Shula (Yehuda), Jenny (James), Rochel (Shira), and Amy (fiancé Scott). Adored great-grandmother of 14. Treasured sister of Bernice (the late Sam) Resnick and Marsha (the late Arthur) Godfrey. Proud aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Rosalyn, lovingly known as Rose, Mom, and Nan, grew up in Brantford, Ontario in a multi-generational home with her parents and grandmother. Rose spent her adolescence devotedly caring for her family before beginning to work in her parents' clothing boutique. It was at that store she developed a keen sense for fashion and customer service. Rose was an accomplished student and always enjoyed literature and the arts. As she grew, Rose's passion for the arts flourished. In her youth, she sketched and painted and later, she developed a talent for crafting, firing, and painting ceramics in her own personal kiln. She also enjoyed attending performing arts shows and live musical events.
Rose married her beloved husband Lou in 1952, and they enjoyed a beautiful marriage for nearly 73 years. She and her husband settled in the south Suburbs of Chicago with their young family. Rose was a pillar in the South Suburbs Jewish community and taught in the Hebrew School there. She also used her outgoing personality and bright sense of humor for several customer service jobs while nurturing her family. As their children grew, Rose and Lou traveled the country with their family on frequent road trips, as well as the world with a special trip to Israel.
During their retirement Rose and Lou enjoyed their winter seasons in Palm Springs, California and continued their world travels into their 80s. Rose was a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved traveling with her family and showering them with gifts, game-playing, and affection. Her greatest joy was hearing of her family's accomplishments and seeing their happiness. Lou was her deepest love and she was heartbroken with his passing this winter. Rose will be dearly missed, but her loved ones find comfort that she is back at her husband's side.
