OBITUARY

Devorah Peltz, nee Cohen. Beloved wife of the late Jerome S. Cohen and the late Seamen Peltz. Devoted mother of Cheryl Cohen, Shira Davis, Joel Cohen (Linda Haase), and Gary (Sandra) Peltz. Proud grandmother of Zechariah (Bella) Davis, Yaakov Davis, Malka (Yisroel) Frey, Shimon (Bluma) Davis, Rifka (Yisroel) Zeidner, Yisca (Avrohom) Goldberg, Jenna Cohen, Brian Peltz, and Caitlin Peltz. Loving great-grandmother of 26. Devoted sister of Sandra (the late Moses) Schimmel and the late Zera (the late Irving) Lipetz. Devorah will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Service Tuesday, 10:30 AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Road) Skokie. I only knew Dvorah through our book club and I remember her as being well read, interested in everything and extremely kind and friendly. She told a story about her first airplane ride and how she got all dressed up in her best dress, with her high heels and a matching hat and gloves and how exciting it was to leave the ground. May others also have fond memories of her that they will treasure and that will enrich their lives.

My heartfelt condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of knowing Devorah at the Budlong Woods Book Club. I will remember her as a woman who had wisdom and humor in her insights, and a smile that was welcoming. I remember the joy our group shared with her when her children brought a surprise cake to our meeting, celebrating her milestone birthday. It was always fun getting to know Devorah at lunch meetings. I hold one dear - an unplanned encounter at a cafe in Lincolnwood Mall where Devorah invited me to sit with her. We talked about visiting her sister, a trip she just returned from. Family was everything to Devorah. May her memory be a blessing.

My condolences to Devorah's entire family. I had the opportunity to take her home after some of our book club meetings and lunches afterward. Always joyful and full of wonderful stories of her life and experiences. She shared her family with us and I know Cheryl from Galter LifeCenter, too. She was alway happy and I enjoyed her company very much. I'm sure she will be sorely missed by her entire family as well as her many friends. Her spirit was always joyful when talking about her family and her life experiences.

Devi was my mother-in-law and a close friend. She is the step-mother to my husband, Gary Peltz. Devi and I never lived close to each other so we kept our friendship alive with long phone calls. She never tired of hearing about her grandchildren, Brian and Caitlin, and asking questions about our lives. She talked often of her family and friends and enjoyed traveling when she could. Devi also loved to celebrate the holidays and family milestones with her loved ones and told me endless stories about these good times. I will very much miss our phone calls and Devi's sense of humor and optimism. She always had a good thing to say about everyone and supported me in every way she could. Very happy that we had the chance to visit her in person last year.

I will always remember how wonderful Devi was to me; and that she always took great care of my father and of our family. It was great that Sandy, Caitlin and I were able to visit her last September. She took great joy in seeing us, and we could introduce her to Caitlin's fiancee (Amir). I will also miss her 'fake' birthday parties, which were held in June (not in December because of the winter weather). We mourn her passing and she will be greatly missed.

Grandma Devi, you will be deeply missed. I fondly remember birthday phone calls with Grandma. She was so warm, friendly and kind, and she was always so nice to talk to, and always so excited to hear about how Caitlin and I were doing. She was a wonderful and supportive grandmother.

She is a such a positive example of a life full of joy, kindness, and family. I will cherish my memories with her and our warm phone calls always.

I have very fond memories of visiting Aunt Devi's home in South Shore and later in Rogers Park. I loved that she was from the South and she still had a bit of a southern accent. I remember visiting Chicago around Passover when I was in college and so enjoying my time with Devi and Seamen and many cousins. She was always kind and welcoming. May her memory be a blessing for her children and stepchildren, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
