Funeral Details

Edward Arthur Berman died peacefully on December 22, 2023, at the age of 89. Beloved husband for nearly 40 years of Penny Berman (nee Baraban). Loving father of Joel Berman, Lynne Levernier, Jonna Keefe (David) and Kelly Davis Seeman (Paul). Cherished grandfather of Camie, Jacob, Sam, Shannon, Rachel, Abby, Sadie and Judd. Fond brother of the late Ronnie Berman and devoted son of the late Helen and Harry Berman.

Eddie was a true Chicagoan. He was born on the South Side, raised Joel, Lynne and Jonna in Wilmette, and lived with Penny and Kelly in the Gold Coast before spending his final years in Glencoe.

Eddie had many interests. He loved to travel and visited six continents with his wife Penny. He also loved sailing, swimming, classical music, reading and a fridge filled with leftovers. None of Eddie’s passions compare to his love of practicing law. He received a BS in Law from Northwestern University and a Doctor of Law from the University of Chicago. After graduating law school, Eddie hung a shingle and practiced law for over 62 years where he specialized in trial and appellate work. Although primarily a solo practitioner, he also served as an assistant Illinois Attorney General, Appeals Division as well as an attorney for the Illinois Department of Registration and Education.

Eddie will be missed by many and remembered for his kindness and sense of humor. He leaves a legacy of a life well lived. Private services were held on December 26th. Eddie supported numerous charities. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Shore Congregation Israel, 1185 Sheridan Road, Glencoe, IL 60022 www.nsci.org, and designated to the Elaine N. Sherman Fine Arts Fund which helps to provide concerts at the synagogue.
