I stumbled upon this online obituary, and wonderful memories came to mind.. I worked with him and for him at Sears in those days of long lunches, long coffee breaks and parties with suppliers. And, oh yes, a little copy writing. He was part of a delightful threesome of group copy chiefs: two Italians and a Jew: Difino, Yaccino and Gerstein. (We all found that kind of melodious.) He was funny and kind and I smile when I think of him.

Marv was a very good man, great co-worker, and a wonderful mentor over what a good life and marriage should be. Many great memories to you all.

I first met Marv at Lee King Advertising.
He was as the Irish say "a lovely man" kind, caring, fun.
I loved him and will miss him.

Marv was my Creative Director at Foote, Cone & Belding, an advertising agency in Chicago. I first met Marv when he hired me to work in his group. He was and is by far the best person I have ever worked with. He was kind and understanding and always willing to help. Marv had a great sense of humor and was just an "all-around" nice guy. I was in Marv's office when I first saw my future wife walk by his office. She was an executive producer from L.A. and was in town on business. He encouraged me to go out with her. I took his advise and within a year I moved to Los Angeles. Shortly thereafter we were married. But I hated leaving Chicago - Marv being one of the big reasons why. Over the years we kept in touch and met for lunch several times. I called him several weeks ago and left a message. He called me back, but I missed the call. I called him again but did not hear from him, until his daughter, Jan called me today and informed me Marv had just passed away. I will miss him. I am grateful to have been one of his friends. But, I am not putting a period at the end of our relationship. Instead I will be using a comma. I will have many pleasant memories from which to draw upon.

To a friend,,,,,,,
