OBITUARY

Honorable Philip S. Lieb, 87, of Chicago, was born on March 7, 1936. He passed in Scottsdale, AZ on Jan 16, 2024. A judge on the Circuit Court of Cook County, he is survived by his loving wife Arlene (nee Perlow), their four beloved children, Steven Lieb (Karen Pinkert-Lieb), Stacey Lieb-Max (Ethan), Troy Henikoff (Kristin), and Jamie Moffitt, his cherished grandchildren Skylar, Jessica, Carlin, Sander, Danielle, Rylie, Addison, and Spencer. He was preceded in death by his mother Lillian, his father Sol, and his first wife Shelia (nee Smollar).

Phil may have been a judge when he retired, but before that he was a Chicago city bus driver, a city checkers champion, a track star, an options trader, a market maker, a sailor and an accomplished matrimonial lawyer. While people may have always given him deference in the courtroom, he always gave deference to his family and friends. He had an easy smile and a quick wit which made people comfortable instantly. A story teller by nature, he always had a tale at the ready. He was always up for a hike but especially so when traveling all over the world. Level headed and calm to a fault, he will be missed by all that knew him.

Private burial will be followed by a service and shiva at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. Skokie, IL at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Parkinson’s Foundation or MDS Foundation. To view the livestream, please visit our website. Arrangements by Chicago Jewish Funerals - Skokie Chapel, 847.229.8822, www.cjfinfo.com.

We were 4 laughing friends that shared time with each others families, dreams of time together and worries of the future. I hope you will be able to share more stories with Nate. We loved every minute we shared with you and Arlene.
Love and miss you,
