OBITUARY

Eleanor Weiner nee Allen, 89

Beloved wife of Milton "Mickey" Weiner. Loving mother of Robin (Steven) Galante, Dawn (Rabbi Eitan) Weiner-Kaplow. Alyssa (Eric) Schor and Scott Weiner. Proud grandmother of Arielle, Ayal, Tyler, Elana, Abe, Joe, Josh and Seth. Cherished sister of the late Herman (the late Shirley) Allen, the late Abe (the late Beverly) Allen and the late Bernice (the late Bill) Shipley. Beloved Sister-in-law of Rose (Herman) Kattlove. Aunt of Robert (Nancy) Shipley, Susan (Diane Akula) Kattlove, Jenny Kattlove, and Rachel Kattlove.

Eleanor was a lover of life. She was kind, fun, energetic, smart, fearless, generous, and loving. She was full of vigor and always the life of any gathering. Eleanor grew up loving reading, learning, singing in Yiddish and dancing, music and being with people. She and husband Mickey raised four children in West Rogers park. The whole family was highly involved in community activities and activism with many neighbors and friends. Eleanor was a professional pharmacist and worked at local hospitals well into her 70s. She loved attending theater, concerts and opera and occasionally was involved with acting in local theaters. Upon retirement she and Mickey were snowbirds in Florida where they built up another community of friends, and had a wonderful winter life for many years. Eleanor was a remarkable woman, loved by all who met her. She will truly be missed.

Eleanor, dear Eleanor. I first met you when visiting your daughter Dawn - who was my best friend at first sight when we were in college in Champaign/Urbana (as we still are today!). You iand Mickey immediately treated me, and I feel accepted me, as part of your wonderful family! Your warm and authentic embrace was so meaningful for me! But then again, that is who you were, and always will be in my heart. You gave my first son, Josh, a presant of a sweatshirt and sweatpants when he was born. I lovingly put it on him - and also on my other three children - and thought of you each and every time. The last time I saw you was when I was, again, made to feel like family, when I was invited to spend the Passover seder with you. I remember sitting and gabbing with you in your kitchen - and felt your glowing warmth and true caring with every word. All this is deep in my heart and always will be! Rest in peace, dear Eleanor, and know that your are in my heart and that of so many of the people you have touched.

Eleanor's warmth came through to me each time we met. Although it was on too few occasions they thankfully were happy ones that included a wedding (Alyssa and Eric's) and (their 4 boys') bar mitzvahs. Eleanor was clearly dearly loved by Mickey and their children and grandchildren and you are in my thoughts at this time of loss.

Dear Dawn and Rabbi Eitan,
I am so saddened by this news. I met Eleanor many times at Shir Hadash. She was a loving, warm, funny , mom and grandmother to the whole congregation. And yes her singing and jokes and smile lit up a room. She will be missed. May her memory be a blessing.

Loving wishes,

Robin, I am so very sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed seeing your mom when we were so much younger when she would come visiting at the Friedman's. It was fun watching her and Mrs. O'Craft (Queenie) dancing and singing Yiddish songs. You are so very blessed to have had a mom like her. May her memory be for a blessing and inspiration to all who knew her. Marsha Goldberg Freeman
