OBITUARY

Harvey L. Coustan, 82

Beloved husband of Arlene nee Nechin. Loving father of Rabbi Andrea (Danny) London, Charles (Hillary) Coustan, Liz Coustan and the late Brad (Helene) Coustan. Proud grandfather of Yonah, Liora, Eli, Ari, Maya, Aden, Victor and Ava. Dear brother of Donald (Terri) Coustan and Susan (Errol) Stone. Harvey was a lifelong Chicagoan, born and raised in the South Shore neighborhood and an avid White Sox fan. He loved participating, watching, and coaching various sports, including softball, tennis, skiing, and golf. A graduate of DePaul University with both an undergraduate degree and a master’s in taxation, Harvey continued to share his knowledge of taxation as a professor at both DePaul and Georgetown Universities. He joined Arthur Young out of college and spent the next 39 years with Arthur Young/Ernst & Young, eventually serving as head of the firm’s national tax practice in Washington DC. Harvey became a nationally recognized leader in his profession, chairing the tax division of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). He was married to Arlene for 52 years. Together they enjoyed spending time with their kids and grandkids, especially at their vacation home in Coloma, Michigan, as well as traveling and attending theater. He had a wry sense of humor and appreciated a bad pun. Harvey loved Mel Brooks and, when his family was gathered around him, liked to declare: “It’s good to be the king.” The patriarch of the Coustan clan will be dearly missed. Service Friday 12 Noon at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd, (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beth Emet The Free Synagogue, 1224 W. Dempster Street, Evanston, IL 60202, www.bethemet.org or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851, www.themmrf.org. GUEST BOOK

We encourage you to share your personal
condolences and stories of Harvey L. Coustan below and
we will share them with the family.
Harvey was a true gentleman. An icon in our industry and a dedicated contributor to the AICPA and ILCPA Societies. Amongst his many achievements in life was his greatest achievement - that of a dedicated family man, proud husband, father and grandfather. He was a mentor and role model as a professional and an all around great human being. I enjoyed every moment I spent with Harvey and treasure the impact he had on me. I am a better person for having known Harvey. May Harvey rest in peace.

Wishing I could be with all of you to celebrate Uncle Harvey's life. I remember his ready smile, his sense of humor, his deep love of his kids and grandkids, and most of all, the special bond between Harvey and my dad. Sending all my love. Becky
