. In the words of Dick's favorite Irish playwright, "I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake."

I work with Dr. Sharipo, with Vitas since 1993.
He was kind patient. The best of all Doctors.
He treated everyone with respect. Regardless it you wasn't educated. He was always available if I needed personal advice. Dr. Sharipo was peerless. His memory will
Never be forgotten.

Bless the Sharipo family may you all find peace and comfort, doing these difficult times.

Your family had the good fortune to have Richard’s medical wisdom and know his quiet warmth. Rheta was a patient advocate also, and a perfect partner. Ralph and I send our condolences. His memory is a blessing. Enid

My condolences to Dr Shapiro’s family.
Dr Shapiro was a very smart, kind, human being. He was who inspired me to love hospice. He was my mentor in hospice and in life.
I did joint visits with him at patients homes. I learned something new in each visit with him. He also took his time to explain things. He never made you feel ignorant if you didn’t understand.
While we worked with him he taught us to see each other as family. He saw all of us equally. He never saw age, sex, titles or degrees, or ethnicity. He treated everyone equally.
We will truly miss his presence.

To the Shapiro Family and Friends my condolences. I observed him at a distance as a Young Nurse at Micheal Reese. Some years later I worked side by side as one of his Hospice nurses. He was authentic as a teacher and friend . What an experience! Wow ! Thank you for sharing him with us.

First as a psych resident and later as an attending, I remember Richard as the epitome of the personal caring compassionate mensch and surgeon that made Michael Reese such a extraordinary opportunity. His smile will always remain as a contrast to institutionally controlled medicine. May his memory always remain for a blessing
