OBITUARY

Renee Siegel nee Pearlman, age 82. Beloved wife of Dr. Allen Siegel for 61 years. Loving mother of Deborah (Marco) Siegel-Acevedo. Proud grandmother of Anya and Teo. Also survived by her loving twin sister Rita (the late Nicholas) Lenn, and her sister Rochelle (Jim) Fisch. Devoted aunt to her many nieces and nephews and their children.
Renee was a generous soul who spent her life committed to the care and well-being of others. She was an accomplished psychotherapist (MSW U of Chicago) who treated children, adolescents, and adults. She enjoyed sharing her professional expertise through teaching and supervising emerging practioners. She enacted the Jewish principle of tikkun olam (repairing the world), extending her generosity to immigrants and to all in her midst who sought her wise counsel when going through hard times. Her home was a welcoming place to gather for many happy occasions or when someone needed comfort. In her later years, she experienced the deep joy of immersing in the day-to-day life of her daughter's young family. She made the best chocolate chip cookies in the world.
Service Wednesday 10AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Road) Skokie. Interment Shalom Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to World Wildlife Fund, www.worldwildlife.org or Artists Book House, www.artistsbookhouse.org, which she was so excited to see take flight. Words cannot express the sadness I feel over the passing away of Renee. While I was making plans and dreams about how we would be together again in Turkey with her and my dear Allen, and how we would work here, Renee suddenly left. It is very difficult for me to believe and get used to Renee's loss. I can only wish dear Allen and Deborah and their grandchildren, and all their loved ones strength to endure.
He relentlessly edited my first SeLF Psychology paper presented at the Antalya congress in English, which was later published in IJPSP. I will never forget those days and what she taught me. We were together many times, in Turkey, in Jerusalem, İn Chicago, in Boston. He was the strong and silent hand of his family in Turkey. We always felt him with us.
You will always be with us, dear Renee.
