OBITUARY
Esther Hazan, age 96. Beloved daughter of the late Haim Hazan and the late Rebecca Hazan, née Elias. Loving sister of the late Albert Hazan, the late Sarah (the late Seymour) Scher, the late Regina Resis, the late Simon Hazan, and the late Irving (Sally) Hazan. Devoted aunt of Robert (Leslie Herman) Resis, Steven (Nancy) Resis, and Sharon (Christopher Grew) Resis; also aunt of Rick (Tracey) Hazan and Gary (Brooke) Hazan, and great-aunt to many. Esther was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend whose life was defined by her loyalty to family and by always being there when someone she loved needed her. She cared for her parents and later for her sister Sarah and brother Albert through their long illnesses. When a loved one was hospitalized, Esther was there from the beginning of visiting hours until the end of the day. For Esther, taking care of family was simply what you did. Esther kept close to the people she loved, calling family every day—and often more than once. She had a wonderful memory, strong opinions, a keen sense of when something wasn't quite right, and a determination that stayed with her until the end. For many years, Esther was a highly valued and trusted office assistant for a family business. Above all, Esther will be remembered for showing up. Her presence made family life richer, funnier and more memorable, and those fortunate enough to have her in their lives knew they could count on her. Everyone needs an Aunt Esther in their life. Her family feels extraordinarily fortunate that she was theirs. Graveside service Wednesday 10AM at Waldheim Cemetery, 1300 South Des Plaines. (Gate 41). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sephardic Congregation, 1819 West Howard Street, Evanston, Illinois 60202, sephardiccongregation.shulcloud.com.
