OBITUARY

Robert Arlen "Bobby" Sussman died peacefully on Monday July 17, 2023, of natural causes. Beloved brother of Ira Sussman. Bobby was a larger-than-life character who had a lot of sides to him. There was the bigger than life warm character who made so many friends over the years because of his wit and humor. There was nothing Bobby wouldn't do for a laugh. There was also the side of Bobby that was the love of music, art, literature, and travel. He shared his love of culture with all of us and made us better for it. Then there was the complicated side of Bobby that made him the most unusual and beloved person to anyone that knew him. He was a true and real Chicago guy and loved the city. There was nobody like him and he will be sorely missed. Celebration of life Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 2PM to 6PM at The Piggery, 1625 Irving Park Road, Chicago, Illinois 60613. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Chicago Jewish Funerals - Skokie Chapel, 847.229.8822, www.cjfinfo.com

When Bobby arrived in Chesterfield and decided to make me his new best friend and partner in crime, I learned that even at that early age he had developed a philosophy he would follow for the rest of his life: "You can get away with anything if it's funny enough," a tenet that was tested to its limits and beyond. What that meant back then was reserved seats in a succession of principal's offices, extra hours of detentions, numerous exasperated teachers and more outrageous fun and ridiculous laughter than any preteen should legally be allowed to have. Bobby, I hope you have as much fun wherever you are now as you did here, that the rules are a little more relaxed and that you stay the hell away from my mom, who I'm sure holds grudges eternally.
