Our deepest and sincerest condolences to the entire Ament Family. Joe’s and Jim’s history goes back to 1963 when Jim
moved to Chicago from Miami post college. Their friendship began at the David Himmelblau Accounting Firm and continued
on through all the milestone occasions and celebrations. We were so grateful to be included when Jonathon and Jeremy with their families were all visiting Chicago and with Miriam & David, of course.
Jim is already missing his lunch dates with Joe Your memory will definitely be a blessing for us.

We met Joe when my husband Larry Pachter took a job at the law firm where Joe was a partner, when Larry graduated law school, and then met Susan as well as their children. They sat in front of us at our synagogue and we became friends, too. We stayed in touch when they moved away. We will miss Joe's kindness, intense connection with Judaism, Jewish education and Israel, his care for others, especially Susan these past few years, and his love deep love of his family. May his memory always be for a blessing and may the family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. Sandy Starkman and larry Pachter

My condolences to Susan and the entire Ament family. My family, including my parents of blessed memory, knew Joe through NSS Beth El were he and the family were active for many years. I respected him as a lawyer and appreciated his knowledge of, and commitment to, Judaism and Israel. He will be fondly remembered by many at Beth El. May his memory always be a blessing for all. May his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and blessed with wonderful memories.

Dear Susan and your family,
It's been a long time since we were together at Beth El, but I have some good memories of times spent together both at shul and Couples Club. I also remember a lovely Shabbat dinner you invited me to with my 5 children, during the time I became a single mom. We are all very senior citizens now with a lot of life experiences, so be mindful of all your blessings and that you were able to have Joe with you for so many years.
Love and hugs,

Dear Ament Family
We are so sad at the passing of Joe and are sending you wishes of comfort and love from Israel. The funeral ceremony was a deserving tribute to a man who excelled in so many areas of family, community and profession. It was an honor to see him receive such honor .

Joe left an indelible impression upon us with his dignity, caring heart and strongly held and lived values- chief among them commitment to family. It was such a honor for me - Maish - to introduce myself to people in Chicago and tell people that I was related to Joe and Sue Ament; this gave me instant credibility knowing a person who was such an important architect of the Jewish community! He always reached out to Atara and I whenever we spent time together and made us feel part of his family -

He will be deeply missed but his memory will always inspire us to be better people. We are already that having known him
May Hashem comfort you among all the mourners of Zion

Dear Susan and family

I knew Joe many years ago at NSS Beth El. I had been raised at Beth El and my mom, Marilyn Sprayregen and I were regular Saturday morning attendees when I got married and started my own home and family. Joe took me under his wing and mentored me and asked me to be part of the Ritual Committee at Beth El which I considered a great honor for a young person. I learned much about ritual, synagogue policies and politics, and governance, but most of all I learned so much about Judaism from Joe. He was an inspiration to me and my family and helped us to make the decision to send our children to Solomon Schecter and continue to learn and grow Jewishly. The Jewish community has lost a great advocate. May God comfort you and the rest of the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
