Dear Rabbi Falk,

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your father, Walter.

To lose a father is always profound, but your father’s life carried an added historical and moral weight. As a survivor of the Kindertransport, he belonged to a generation whose very lives bore witness both to unimaginable loss and to extraordinary resilience. That he went on to build a family, to see children and grandchildren, and to transmit life and Jewish continuity forward is itself a remarkable legacy.

I hope that, in the midst of your grief, you and your family may draw some comfort from knowing that his story did not end with what was taken from him. It continued through you, through his children and grandchildren, and through the generations that followed. In that sense, his life became a quiet triumph of dor l’dor.

May Walter’s memory be for a blessing, and may you and your entire family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

With heartfelt condolences,
Julian
