OBITUARY
Francine Renee Cohen, known as Frankie was the only daughter of Sylvia and Louis Cohen. She loved horse back riding as a young girl. She grew up on the South Side of Chicago.
In 1944, Francine met Alexander (Sandy) Steinman who was in the Navy and they had a whirlwind courtship that lead to a love which lasted a lifetime. Even the distance during the war years could not intervene. and in 1945 Frankie flew to San Francisco to be married to Sandy.
They were blessed with two children. First Linda and then Barry. They were thrilled as they grew up and welcomed Marv and Penny into the family as their own children when Linda and Barry married. They were blessed to see another generation born, seeing their grandchildren Sharon and Nancy and Havilah. Francine lived to see the birth of another grandchild, Tzytle, and the births of three great grandchidlren: Sophia, Eliana and Nathaniel.
Francine and Sandy loved dancing and traveling. They bought a Travel Agency in Evanston and went on numerous cruises. Francine worked with Sandy at the travel agency and loved the travel perks that went along with owning the company.
They loved praying bridge and were quite good at it.
After Frankie lost the love of her life, she started a new life for herself playing bridge constantly. She lived to play bridge, and made lots of new friends. She went on outings with friends new and old.
Francine loved shopping for bargains. Had too many tops, coats, shoes and purses for her closets. She could not refuse a bargain or a sale.
She loved to watch TV. Before she ended up in the nursing home she would keep binders with a list of every show she watched. She was an avid crossword puzzle solver. She loved Wheel of Fortune and loved to solve the puzzles that were on TV. Here favorite shows were Kelly, Idol, The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, America's Got Talent and Ice Skating.
Francine loved her home in Highland Park. She was fiercely independent and resisted leaving the home she loved that held so many memories of the life she had shared with the love of her life. Ultimately she fell and ended up at Whitehall.
She lived 97 years and died on May 10th. Her mother Sylvia lived to be 106 and also died on a May 10th in 2006.
