Last Sunday Arlyne and I were sitting in her living room adding up the number of years that we’ve been friends - 43!
I was a young writer at Spiegel and she a beloved editor. I’m so blessed that our friendship continued long after she left Spiegel. I’ll miss Little Leenie. She loved and was loved by so many and constantly let her friends and loved ones know how much she loved them. I know she’s at rest after a wonderful life well lived.

Arlyne and met in May of 1955, 67 years ago. She was the Copy Chief of menswear in the Spiegel catalog and I was her new copywriter. Arlyne was a warm and welcoming boss, eager to show me the ropes. Our friendship began and evolved into an extended family that included coworkers, husbands, children, neices, nephews, and significant others. That "Spiegei family" still exists even though we no longer work together.
In August, I was regaling Arlyne about my 35-year old grandson's wedding on July 31st. She laughed about attending his Mother's wedding 40 years ago. I could go on, having Arlyne in my life was a blessing. I loved her and marveled at her exuberance. Broken bone, after broken bone, after broken bone, didn't stop her from living a full and vibrant life. A lesson for all who knew and loved her.
Shalom dear Arlyne,
B.J.

Arlyne and my Mom were best friends for more than 80 years. What a great person to be in my brothers and my life from afar. What a happy person to be with!
May she rest in peace and now be with her family and friends in heaven.

Arlyne was a beautiful soul who had a zest for life, fun, family and friends. Her smile and laughter could light up any room. Her love was true, strong and devoted.
Her friendships were genuine, loving and comforting as witnessed by her beautiful friendship of over eighty years with my mother, Ann Karva. Her phone calls twice a day with my mom always made her laugh, smile and gave her great comfort for which I am forever grateful.
Arlyne was more than a friend to us-she was family!
I will miss our phone chats but know you are at peace.
I love you and will miss you.

I also met Arlyne eons ago while working in the Advertising Department at Spiegel. After reading my twin sister Beulah Johnson's tribute, I realize that B.J. said it all! But I will add that when our sweet, sweet friend Arlyne said "I love you, I love you, I love you" she really, really, really meant it!! Rest in peace my dear! Bertha

As you all know., Arlyne was a small person with the worlds biggest heart. She lover her friends and family so deeply and would not let you forget it. Despite her lifelong history of physical ailments, she insisted on being a "Happy Camper". She was the strongest person I knew in battling and overcoming hardships. She was a fighter to the end. I love you Arlyne.
