Dear Craig and family, I don’t have the right words to express my sadness and offer condolences for your loss. I got to know and work with Gail via a program I ran and held at Kellogg for future leaders of the roofing industry. Gail was ever cheerful, ready to engage and uniquely gifted to connect with and make a lasting impact on students class after class, year after year. I am honored to have become a friend over those years, and I am strengthened by the example of her resolve to be her best even when her health challenged her. I was so sad to hear of Gail’s passing. I had the privilege of working with her at the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern, and I wanted to share a little about what she meant to so many of us.

Gail taught the introductory course in our program for many years, and she had a rare ability to truly know each student. She helped people see how their experiences as students could connect to the organizations and communities they hoped to serve. Because of her, countless students went on to build meaningful professional lives rooted in reflection, curiosity, and purpose.

I am deeply grateful for Gail’s sense of humor, her creativity, and her incredible mind. She brought so much warmth and imagination into her teaching and our conversations, and she made our community brighter simply by being herself.
Gail will be sorely missed. Please know how deeply her influence lives on through the many students and colleagues who were lucky enough to learn from her.

I had the pleasure of working with Gail through our connections at Northwestern University and Kellogg. Gail invited me to partner with her on a project with the Sears School Board and we had so much fun working on that project together. She set a high bar and always made it fun to exceed it together. Gail and I went on to publish 2 papers together, work together on client projects and connected as busy parents of young children. Dr Berger was my professor for a short time in the School of Comms. I remember her kindness, patience and wisdom one day in particular when she suggested we go for a walk together on campus instead of sitting for an office hours meeting. Conversation flowed easily and she provided reassurance that I really needed in that moment. She reminded me a lot of my own mom, also a college professor lost far too early to cancer. My thoughts are with the family and I hope that reading statements like this from students gives a sense of her great positive impact on the many young people she worked with over the years.
